Job: He Hangs the Earth Upon Nothing

Job’s Third Answer to Bildad

26:1Then Job replied:

26:2“To whom do you attach yourself, or whom are you about to help?
Is it not the One with great strength and a mighty arm?

26:3Whom have you advised? Is it not the One with all wisdom?
Or whom will you follow? Is it not the One with the greatest power?

26:4To whom did you announce words?
And whose is the breath that came out of you?

26:5Will giants be brought to birth
beneath water and its neighbors?

26:6Hades is naked before Him,
and destruction has no covering.

26:7He stretches the north over nothing
and hangs the earth upon nothing,

26:8binding water in His clouds,
and no cloud burst beneath it.

26:9He holds the face of a throne,
spreading His cloud over it.

26:10He circled a command upon the waters’ face,
until the completion of light with darkness.

26:11The pillars of heaven were spread out
and were astonished at His rebuke.

26:12By strength He calmed the sea,
and by knowledge He wounded the great sea creature.

26:13The bars of heaven have feared Him,
and by a command He killed the rebellious dragon.

26:14Look, these are parts of His way,
and we will hear a mere drop of speech concerning Him.
But the strength of His thunder—who knows when He will act?”
