Elihu: He Opens Their Ear by Affliction

Elihu Continues to Speak
36:1Elihu continued speaking:
36:2“Wait for me a little longer, so that I may teach you;
for speech is still within me.
36:3Taking up my knowledge from afar,
I will speak things just in relation to my works,
36:4in truth, and not unjust words;
you understand unjustly.
36:5Know that the Lord will certainly not reject the innocent;
mighty in strength of heart,
36:6He will certainly not give life to the ungodly,
and He will give judgment to the poor.
36:7He will not take His eyes from a righteous person;
with kings upon a throne
He will seat them for victory, and they will be raised high.
36:8if, fettered in handcuffs,
they are held in cords of poverty,
36:9He will announce to them their works
and their transgressions, that they will become strong.
36:10But He will hear the righteous person,
and He said that they will turn from injustice.
36:11If they listen and serve,
they will finish their days amid good things
and their years in splendor.
36:12But He does not preserve the ungodly,
because they do not wish to know the Lord
and because, when admonished, they were disobedient.
36:13Hypocrites in heart will arrange wrath;
they will not cry out because He bound them.
36:14May their soul therefore die in youth,
and their life be wounded by angels,
36:15because they afflicted the weak and powerless;
He will set forth the judgment of the meek.
36:16Moreover, He deceived you out of an enemy’s mouth;
an abyss, a pouring-down beneath it;
and your table descended, full of fatness.
36:17Judgment will not be lacking from the righteous,
36:18and wrath will be upon the ungodly
because of the impiety of gifts they accepted for injustices.
36:19Let your mind not willingly turn you away
from the plea of the powerless who are in constraint,
and all those strengthening might.
36:20Do not draw out the night
for peoples to rise in their stead,
36:21but guard yourself from doing improper things;
for you chose for this one out of poverty.
36:22Look, the Strong One will strengthen by His strength;
for who is a ruler like Him?
36:23Who is the one examining His works,
or who said, ‘He did unjust things’?
36:24Remember that His works are great,
which men began,
36:25Every human saw within himself,
as many mortals as are being wounded.
36:26Look, the Strong One is great, and we will not know;
the number of His years is also boundless.
36:27Drops of rain are numbered by Him,
and they will be poured as rain into a cloud;
36:28old things will flow,
and He shaded clouds over countless mortals.
36:28aHe appointed a time for cattle,
and they know the order of their resting place.
36:28bAt all these things, is your mind not astonished,
and is your heart not changed away from the body?
36:29And if one understands the extensions of a cloud,
the evenness of His tent,
36:30look, He stretches ēdō over it
and covered the roots of the sea.
36:31For by these He will judge peoples;
He will give food to the strong.
36:32He covered light upon hands
and gave a command concerning it through one meeting it.
36:33He will announce His friend concerning Him;
a possession also concerning injustice.
