The Borders of Judah, and a Daughter Who Asked for Water

The Borders of Judah
15:1The borders of the tribe of Judah according to their divisions extended from the borders of Idumea, from the wilderness of Zin as far as Kadesh toward the southwest.
15:2Their borders on the southwest extended to the edge of the Salt Sea, from the ridge stretching toward the southwest,
15:3and it passes opposite the ascent of Akrabin, goes around Senna, goes up from the southwest to Kadesh-barnea, goes out to Hezron, ascends to Addara, and goes around the region west of Kadesh.
15:4It goes toward Azmon and will pass through as far as the ravine of Egypt; the boundary will end at the sea. These are their borders on the southwest.
15:5The borders on the east were the whole Salt Sea as far as the Jordan. Their borders on the north began at the ridge of the sea and at the edge of the Jordan.
15:6The boundary rises to Beth-hoglah, passes on the north to Beth-arabah, and ascends to the stone of Baion son of Reuben.
15:7The boundary ascends to the fourth part of the ravine of Achor and descends to Gilgal, opposite the ascent of Addamin, southwest of the ravine. It passes through to the water of the Spring of the Sun and ends at the Spring of Rogel.
15:8The boundary ascends into the ravine of Onom along the southwestern ridge of Jebus—that is Jerusalem. It passes through to the mountain summit facing the ravine of Onom toward the sea, at the northern part of the land of Raphain.
15:9The boundary passes from the mountain’s summit to the spring of the water of Naphtho and passes to Mount Ephron. The boundary leads to Baal—that is the city of Jearim.
15:10The boundary will go around from Baal toward the sea and pass to Mount Assares along the ridge, to the city of Jearim on the north—that is Chesalon. It will descend to the City of the Sun and pass toward the southwest.
15:11The boundary will pass along the ridge of Ekron on the north, go out to Shikkeron, pass Mount Baalah, and go out to Jabneel. The boundary will end at the sea.
15:12Their borders on the sea side were: the Great Sea shall form the boundary. These are the borders of the sons of Judah all around, according to their divisions.
Caleb Takes Hebron and Debir
15:13To Caleb son of Jephunneh he gave a portion among the sons of Judah by God’s command, and Joshua gave him the city of Arbok, the mother-city of Anak—that is Hebron.
15:14Caleb son of Jephunneh destroyed from there the three sons of Anak: Sousi, Talmai, and Achima.
15:15Caleb went up from there against the inhabitants of Debir; Debir’s former name was City of Letters.
Achsah’s Request
15:16Caleb said, “Whoever takes and cuts down the City of Letters and gains mastery over it, I will give him my daughter Achsah as a wife.”
15:17Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, took it, and he gave him his daughter Achsah as his wife.
15:18When she entered, she consulted with him, saying, “I will ask my father for a field.” She cried out from the donkey, and Caleb said to her, “What is it?”
15:19She said to him, “Give me a blessing, for you have given me to the land of Negeb; give me Golathmaim.” Caleb gave her Upper Golathmaim and Lower Golathmaim.
The Cities of the South
15:20This was the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Judah.
15:21Their cities were these: the first city of the tribe of the sons of Judah at the borders of Edom in the wilderness was Kaibaiseleel; also Ara and Hazor,
15:22Ikam, Regma, and Arouel,
15:23Kedesh and Asorionain,
15:24Mainam, Balmainan, and their villages,
15:25and the cities of Aseron—that is Hazor,
15:26Sen, Salmaa, and Moladah,
15:27Seri and Baiphalad,
15:28Cholaseola and Beer-sheba, with their villages and their settlements,
15:29Baalah, Bakok, and Asom,
15:30Elboudad, Bethel, and Hormah,
15:31Ziklag, Macharim, and Sethennak,
15:32Labos, Sale, and Eromoth: twenty-nine cities, with their villages.
The Cities of the Plain
15:33In the plain: Eshtaol, Raa, and Assa,
15:34Ramen, Tano, Ilouthoth, and Maiani,
15:35Jarmuth, Adullam, Membra, Socoh, and Azekah,
15:36Sakarim and Gederah, with its settlements: fourteen cities, with their villages.
15:37Senna, Adasan, and Magadagad,
15:38Dalal, Mizpah, and Jakareel,
15:39Lachish, Basedoth, and Ideadalea,
15:40Chabra, Maches, and Maachos,
15:41Geddor, Bagadiel, Naamah, and Makkedah: sixteen cities, with their villages.
15:42Libnah and Ithak,
15:43Anoch, Jana, and Nezib,
15:44Keilam, Akiezi, Kezib, Bathesar, and Ailon: ten cities, with their villages.
15:45Ekron, its villages, and their settlements;
15:46from Ekron, Gemna, and all the places near Ashdod, with their villages;
15:47Ashdod, its villages, and its settlements; Gaza, its villages, and its settlements, as far as the torrent of Egypt. The Great Sea marks the boundary.
The Cities of the Hill Country
15:48In the hill country: Shamir, Jattir, and Socoh,
15:49Renna and City of Letters—that is Debir,
15:50Anon, Eskaiman, and Aisam,
15:51Gosom, Chalou, and Channa: eleven cities, with their villages.
15:52Airem, Remna, and Soma,
15:53Jemain, Bethachou, and Phakoua,
15:54Euma, the city of Arbok—that is Hebron—and Sorth: nine cities, with their settlements.
15:55Maor, Carmel, Ozib, and Itan,
15:56Jariel, Jarikam, and Zakanaiim,
15:57Gibeah and Timnah: nine cities, with their villages.
15:58Aloua, Beth-zur, and Geddon,
15:59Magaroth, Bethanam, and Thekoum: six cities, with their villages.
15:59aTekoa, Ephrathah—that is Bethlehem—Phagor, Aitan, Koulon, Tatam, Eobes, Karem, Galem, Thether, and Manocho: eleven cities, with their villages.
15:60Kiriath-baal—that is the city of Jearim—and Sotheba: two cities, with their settlements.
15:61Baddargis, Tharabaam, Ainon, and Aichioza,
15:62Naphlazon, the cities of Sodom, and Ankades: seven cities, with their villages.
The Jebusites Remain in Jerusalem
15:63The Jebusites lived in Jerusalem, and the sons of Judah could not destroy them. The Jebusites lived in Jerusalem until that day.
