This reading follows the reviewed Greek RH2006 main text in its own order. Source chapter and verse labels are retained, including additions and numbered gaps. The paired Hebrew translation and full comparison notes are preserved in the companion volume. Source and review notes
Source basis. All twenty-four Greek RH2006 and Hebrew BHS1997 publisher main-text chapters were personally reviewed in complete literary units. The original draft provisionally used Mechon Mamre for Hebrew chapters eight, eleven, and twenty-four, and a Swete transcription for Greek chapter ten because the preferred sources were inaccessible. The now accessible publisher texts are adopted. The original source files and historical substitution declarations are preserved.
Chapter ten. RH2006 changes Dabin to Debir at 10:3, Gaza to Gezer at 10:33, and Nabai to the Negeb at 10:40. At 10:35 it includes the sword phrase and a separate statement that they slaughtered everything breathing in the city. These are recorded source changes; no verse numbering changes result. Other source-specific names, including Adoni-bezek, Ailam, and Adullam, remain.
Restored clauses and syntax. Greek 3:15 now retains the repeated priests, ark, divine title, and Jordan reference. At 8:29 and 10:27 the Greek and Hebrew narrate the carrying out of the command to lower the bodies; 10:27 also narrates their being thrown into the cave. Greek 8:24 retains from it, the compressed point-of-departure phrase. At 9:2d resident aliens and natives are distinguished from the priestly ark-bearers. Greek 7:3 calls for capture by siege; 15:8 gives a southwestern ridge.
Numbering and endings. The altar-and-law passage occurs at Greek 9:2a–f, corresponding to Hebrew 8:30–35. The additions at 15:59a, 19:47a and 48a, 21:42a–d, and 24:31a and 33a–b remain in their Greek locations. Greek 24:29–31 orders Israel’s service, Joshua’s death, and his burial differently from Hebrew. Its ending continues through apostasy and eighteen years of Moabite subjection. These clauses and the Astarte/Ashtaroth names are retained.
Contextual terms. Second law at 9:2c can convey repetition or a copy; it does not prove a different Torah or settle the inscription’s extent. Servant of the Lord at 24:30 renders doulos as an honorific service title, consistent with Judges 2:8; the word can also denote a slave. At 7:21 patterned carpet remains a provisional rendering of the textile psilē; its precise form is uncertain.
Major comparisons. The explicit divine/human agency changes at 10:13 and 24:8 remain Disparate even though both complete narratives affirm divine aid. The linked inheritance notices at 13:14 and 33 are Divergent: Hebrew names offerings by fire at 13:14, Greek names the Lord and expands the notice, and Hebrew 13:33 also names YHWH. The distinction remains visible without isolating it from its complete unit.
Refuge and property. Hebrew 20:4–6 contains admission, non-extradition, and release provisions absent from the shorter Greek chapter; Greek hearing clauses remain where written. At 21:11–12 the recipients and property clauses differ, but different land terms alone do not prove distinct technical categories. Greek 21:27 introduces plural cities set apart for killers before Gaulon and Bosora. Its apparent expansion of the designation remains provisionally Disparate; chapter twenty’s six cities do not erase the plural. No seventh historical city, reconstructed law, or apparatus-supported explanation is asserted.
Reception checked. The companion’s cited Rashi passages, Justin’s Dialogue with Trypho 111 and 113, Cyril’s Catechetical Lecture 10.11, and Ambrose’s On the Duties of the Clergy II.26, sections 129–130, were checked in their identified primary presentations. Cyril compares Joshua’s twelve men for dividing the inheritance with Christ’s apostles; he does not identify the twelve memorial stones in that passage. Named interpretations remain notes, including Rashi’s Michael identification and Justin’s scarlet-sign and circumcision typology.
Liturgical anchors checked. The published selections are Joshua 3:7–8, 15–17 for Theophany Eve; 5:10–15 for Great and Holy Saturday; 5:13–15 for the Synaxis of the Bodiless Powers; 5:9a, 10–12 for the Roman Fourth Sunday of Lent, Year C; and 24:1–2a, 15–17, 18b for the Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B. Other Christ-centered headings in the companion are explicitly editorial or thematic.
