Promise of Restoration
30:1When all these things come upon you, the blessing and curse I set before you, and you receive them into your heart among all the nations where the Lord scatters you,
30:2and you return to the Lord your God and obey Him in everything I command you today, with all your heart and all your soul,
30:3then the Lord will heal your sins and have mercy on you. He will gather you again from all the nations among whom the Lord scattered you.
30:4Even if your dispersion stretches from one end of heaven to the other, the Lord your God will gather you from there, and the Lord your God will take you from there.
30:5The Lord your God will bring you into the land your fathers inherited, and you will inherit it. He will do you good and make you more numerous than your fathers.
30:6The Lord will thoroughly cleanse your heart and your offspring’s heart, so that you love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and may live.
30:7The Lord your God will put these curses upon your enemies and those who hate and pursued you.
30:8You will return, obey the Lord your God, and perform His commands that I give you today.
30:9The Lord your God will care greatly for you in all your handiwork, your womb’s offspring, your land’s produce, and your livestock’s offspring. The Lord your God will again rejoice over you for good, as He rejoiced over your fathers,
30:10if you obey the Lord your God, keeping and performing all His commands, ordinances, and judgments written in this book of the law, if you return to the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul.
The Accessibility of the Commandment
30:11For this command that I give you today is not excessively burdensome or far from you.
30:12It is not in heaven above, requiring you to say, Who will ascend to heaven for us and fetch it for us? Then, having heard it, we shall perform it.
30:13Nor is it beyond the sea, requiring you to say, Who will cross beyond the sea for us and fetch it for us? He will make it audible to us, and we shall perform it.
30:14The word is very near you, in your mouth, in your heart, and in your hands, for you to perform it.
The Choice Between Life and Death
30:15Look, today I set before you life and death, good and evil.
30:16If you obey the Lord your God’s commands that I give you today—to love the Lord your God, walk in all His ways, and keep His ordinances and judgments—you will live and become numerous, and the Lord your God will bless you throughout the land you are entering to inherit.
30:17But if your heart turns away and you do not listen, and you are led astray to bow before other gods and worship them,
30:18I declare to you today that you will surely perish. You will not live long on the land the Lord your God is giving you, which you are crossing the Jordan to inherit.
30:19I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today: I have set life and death, blessing and curse before you. Choose life, so that you and your offspring may live,
30:20loving the Lord your God, obeying Him, and holding fast to Him. For this is your life and your length of days, enabling you to dwell on the land the Lord swore to give your fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
