The Words of Amos from Tekoa

1:1The words of Amos that came among nakkarim from Tekoa, which he saw concerning Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah king of Judah and Jeroboam son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

1:4I will send fire into Hazael’s house, and it will devour the foundations of the son of Ader,

1:5and I will shatter Damascus’s bars and destroy inhabitants from the Plain of On. I will cut down a tribe from the men of Harran, and the people of Syria, called by name, will be taken captive,” says the Lord.

Against Gaza

1:6Thus says the Lord: “For three impieties of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away from them, because they took Solomon’s captives into captivity, to shut them up in Idumea.

1:7I will send fire upon Gaza’s walls, and it will devour her foundations.

1:8I will destroy inhabitants from Azotus, and a tribe will be removed from Ascalon. I will bring My hand against Accaron, and the remaining foreigners will perish,” says the Lord.

Against Tyre

1:9Thus says the Lord: “For three impieties of Tyre, and for four, I will not turn away from her, because they shut Solomon’s captives up in Idumea and did not remember a covenant of brothers.

1:10I will send fire upon Tyre’s walls, and it will devour her foundations.”

Against Idumea

1:11Thus says the Lord: “For three impieties of Idumea, and for four, I will not turn away from them, because they pursued his brother with a sword; he ravaged a womb upon the earth, seized his shuddering as testimony, and kept his onrush for victory.

1:12I will send fire into Teman, and it will devour the foundations of her walls.”

Against the Sons of Ammon

1:13Thus says the Lord: “For three impieties of the sons of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away from him, because they ripped open the pregnant women of the Gileadites in order to enlarge their borders.

1:14I will kindle fire upon Rabbah’s walls, and it will devour her foundations with shouting on the day of war; she will be shaken on the day of her end.

1:15Her kings will go into captivity, their priests and their rulers together,” says the Lord.
