Woe to Those Who Despise Zion

6:1Woe to those who despise Zion and trust in Samaria’s mountain! They harvested the firstfruits of nations and entered themselves. House of Israel,

6:2all of you cross over and see; pass from there to Emath Rabba, and go down from there to Geth of foreigners, the strongest of all these kingdoms, to see whether their borders are greater than your borders.

6:3You come toward an evil day, drawing near and touching false sabbaths,

6:4sleeping upon ivory beds and indulging upon your couches, eating kids from the flocks and milk-fed calves from the herds,

6:5clapping to the sound of instruments; they reckoned them as lasting, not passing away,

6:6drinking strained wine and anointing yourselves with the finest perfumes, yet suffering nothing over Joseph’s shattering.

6:7Therefore now they will be captives from the foremost of the powerful, and horses’ neighing will be removed from Ephraim.

The Lord Swore by Himself

6:8For the Lord swore by Himself: “I abhor all Jacob’s arrogance and have hated his regions; I will remove the city with all who inhabit it.”

6:9If ten men remain in one house, they will die, and those left over will remain,

6:10Their relatives will take them and force their way to bring their bones out of the house. He will say to those in charge of the house, “Is there anyone else with you?” He will say, “No more.” Then he will say, “Be silent, so as not to name the Lord’s name.”

6:11For look, the Lord commands, and He will strike the great house with fractures and the small house with cracks.

Will Horses Pursue upon Rocks?

6:12Will horses pursue upon rocks? Will they remain silent among females? For you turned judgment into anger and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness,

6:13rejoicing over no thing, saying, “Did we not acquire horns by our own strength?”

6:14“For look, I am raising a nation against you, house of Israel, and they will crush you so that you cannot enter Emath, as far as the Wadi of the West.”
