Alas for the Day! The Lord’s Day Is Near

30:1The Lord’s word came to me, saying,

30:2Son of man, prophesy and say: Thus says the Lord: Alas, alas, the day!

30:3For the Lord’s day is near; it will be a day, an end of nations.

30:4A sword will come upon the Egyptians, and there will be turmoil in Ethiopia; wounded men will fall in Egypt, and her foundations will collapse together.

30:5Persians, Cretans, Lydians, Libyans, all the mixed company, and some of the sons of My covenant will fall by the sword in her.

30:6Egypt’s supports will fall, and the arrogance of her strength will come down from Migdol to Syene; they will fall in her by the sword, says the Lord.

30:7She will be desolated among desolated countries, and their cities will be among desolated cities.

30:8They will know that I am the Lord when I put fire upon Egypt and all who help her are shattered.

30:9On that day messengers will go out, hastening to make Ethiopia disappear; turmoil will be among them on Egypt’s day, for look, it is coming.

The Multitude of Egypt Destroyed

30:10Thus says the Lord, the Lord: I will destroy the multitude of Egyptians by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon,

30:11him and his people: scourges from nations sent to destroy the land. They will all draw their swords against Egypt, and the land will be filled with wounded men.

30:12I will make their rivers desolate and destroy the land and all that fills it by foreigners’ hands. I, the Lord, have spoken.

30:13For thus says the Lord, the Lord: I will destroy the magnates from Memphis and the rulers from the land of Egypt, and they will be no more.

30:14I will destroy the land of Pathros, put fire upon Tanis, and execute vengeance in Diospolis,

30:15and pour out My wrath upon Sais, Egypt’s strength, and destroy the multitude of Memphis.

30:16I will put fire upon Egypt; Syene will be greatly troubled, and in Diospolis there will be a breach, and waters will pour out.

30:17The young men of Heliopolis and Bubastis will fall by the sword, and the women will go into captivity.

30:18At Tahpanhes the day will grow dark when I shatter Egypt’s scepters there and the arrogance of her strength perishes there. A cloud will cover her, and her daughters will be led away captive.

30:19I will execute judgment in Egypt, and they will know that I am the Lord.

The Arms of Pharaoh Shattered

30:20In the eleventh year, in the first month, on the seventh of the month, the Lord’s word came to me, saying,

30:21Son of man, I shattered the arms of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Look, it has not been bound up to provide healing, to put a poultice upon it, to give strength to grasp a sword.

30:22Therefore thus says the Lord, the Lord: Look, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt. I will shatter his arms, the strong and the outstretched, and cast his sword down from his hand,

30:23and scatter Egypt into the nations and winnow them into the countries.

30:24I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put My sword into his hand; he will bring it upon Egypt, take her booty, and strip her spoils.

30:25I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, but Pharaoh’s arms will fall. They will know that I am the Lord when I put My sword into the hands of the king of Babylon and he stretches it over the land of Egypt.

30:26I will scatter Egypt into the nations and winnow them into the countries. All will know that I am the Lord.
