Against Pharaoh, the Great Sea Monster
29:1In the tenth year, in the tenth month, on the first of the month, the Lord’s word came to me, saying,
29:2Son of man, fix your face upon Pharaoh king of Egypt and prophesy against him and against all Egypt,
29:3and say: Thus says the Lord: Look, I am against Pharaoh, the great dragon seated among his rivers, who says, The rivers are mine, and I made them.
29:4I will put traps in your jaws and fasten the fish of your river to your fins. I will bring you up from the midst of your river, and all the fish of your river,
29:5and I will cast you down quickly, and all the fish of your river. You will fall on the face of the plain; you will certainly not be gathered or wrapped for burial. I have given you for food to the beasts of the earth and the birds of heaven.
29:6All who inhabit Egypt will know that I am the Lord, because you became a reed staff for the house of Israel.
29:7When they took hold of you with their hand, you were crushed; and when every hand prevailed against them, and when they rested upon you, you were shattered and broke all their loins.
A Sword upon Egypt
29:8Therefore thus says the Lord: Look, I am bringing a sword against you, and I will destroy humans and livestock from you.
29:9The land of Egypt will become destruction and wilderness, and they will know that I am the Lord, because you say, The rivers are mine, and I made them.
29:10Therefore, look, I am against you and against all your rivers. I will make the land of Egypt a wilderness, a sword, and destruction, from Migdol and Syene as far as the borders of the Ethiopians.
29:11No human foot will pass through it, nor will livestock’s foot pass through it; it will not be inhabited for forty years.
29:12I will make her land destruction amid desolated land, and her cities will be amid desolated cities for forty years. I will scatter Egypt among the nations and winnow them into the countries.
After Forty Years I Will Gather the Egyptians
29:13Thus says the Lord: After forty years I will gather the Egyptians from the nations where they were scattered,
29:14and I will turn back the captivity of the Egyptians and settle them in the land of Pathros, in the land from which they were taken; it will be a lowly dominion
29:15among all the dominions; it will no longer be exalted over the nations, and I will make them few, so that they are not more numerous among the nations.
29:16They will no longer be a hope for the house of Israel, bringing lawlessness to remembrance when they follow after them. They will know that I am the Lord.
Egypt Given to Nebuchadnezzar
29:17In the twenty-seventh year, on the first of the first month, the Lord’s word came to me, saying,
29:18Son of man, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon subjected his force to great servitude against Tyre; every head was bald and every shoulder losing its hair. Yet neither he nor his force received wages for Tyre and the servitude they performed against her.
29:19Thus says the Lord, the Lord: Look, I give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. He will take her booty and strip her spoils; it will be wages for his force.
29:20In exchange for his service, which he performed against Tyre, I have given him the land of Egypt. Thus says the Lord, the Lord:
29:21On that day a horn will spring up for the whole house of Israel, and I will give you an opened mouth among them. They will know that I am the Lord.
