I Will Sprinkle Clean Water and Give You a New Heart

Prophesy to the Mountains of Israel
36:1“And you, son of man, prophesy concerning Israel’s mountains and say to Israel’s mountains, ‘Hear the Lord’s word:
36:2Thus says the Lord, the Lord: Because the enemy said over you, “Well done! Everlasting wildernesses have become our possession,”
36:3therefore prophesy and say, Thus says the Lord, the Lord: Because you were dishonored and hated by those around you, so that you became a possession for the remaining nations, and you became a subject of talk on a tongue and a reproach to nations,
36:4therefore, mountains of Israel, hear the Lord’s word! Thus says the Lord to the mountains, hills, ravines, torrents, devastated and destroyed places, and abandoned cities, which became plunder and a trampling place for the remaining nations all around:
36:5Therefore thus says the Lord, the Lord: Surely in the fire of My wrath I have spoken against the remaining nations and all Idumea, because they gave My land to themselves as a possession with rejoicing, dishonoring lives so as to destroy through plunder.
36:6Therefore prophesy over Israel’s land and say to the mountains, hills, ravines and valleys, Thus says the Lord: Behold, I have spoken in My jealousy and My wrath because you bore the nations’ reproaches.
36:7Therefore I will raise My hand against the nations around you; these will receive their own dishonor.
36:8But your grapes and fruit, mountains of Israel, My people will consume, for they are approaching to come.
36:9For behold, I am toward you; I will look upon you, and you will be cultivated and sown.
36:10I will multiply people upon you, all Israel’s house completely. The cities will be inhabited and the devastated land rebuilt.
36:11I will multiply humans and livestock upon you, settle you as at your beginning and do you good as in your former times. You will know that I am the Lord.
36:12I will cause people, My people Israel, to be born upon you. They will inherit you, and you will be their possession. You certainly will no longer be bereaved of them.
You Will No Longer Devour People
36:13Thus says the Lord, the Lord: Because they said to you, “You devour human beings and became bereaved by your nation,”
36:14therefore you will no longer eat human beings or bereave your nation, says the Lord, the Lord.
36:15The nations’ dishonor will no longer be heard against you, and you certainly will not bear the peoples’ reproaches, says the Lord, the Lord.’”
36:16The Lord’s word came to me, saying,
They Defiled the Land
36:17“Son of man, Israel’s house lived upon their land and defiled it by their way, their idols and their uncleannesses. Their way before Me became like the uncleanness of a woman sitting apart.
36:18I poured My wrath upon them
36:19and scattered them among the nations and winnowed them into the countries. I judged them according to their way and their sin.
36:20They entered the nations where they entered, and profaned My holy name when it was said of them, ‘These are the Lord’s people, and they have left His land.’
36:21I spared them because of My holy name, which Israel’s house profaned among the nations where they entered.
Not for Your Sake, House of Israel
36:22Therefore say to Israel’s house, ‘Thus says the Lord: I am not acting for you, house of Israel, but because of My holy name, which you profaned among the nations where you entered.
36:23I will sanctify My great name, profaned among the nations, which you profaned among them. The nations will know that I am the Lord when I am sanctified in you before their eyes.
36:24I will take you out of the nations, gather you out of all the lands and bring you into your own land.
36:25I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you will be cleansed from all your uncleannesses and all your idols. I will cleanse you.
36:26I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you. I will remove the stone heart from your flesh and give you a fleshly heart.
36:27I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My ordinances, keep My judgments and do them.
36:28You will dwell upon the land I gave your fathers. You will be My people, and I will be your God.
36:29I will save you from all your uncleannesses, summon the grain and multiply it, and will not bring famine upon you.
36:30I will multiply the tree’s fruit and the field’s produce, so that you do not bear the reproach of famine among the nations.
36:31You will remember your evil ways and practices that were not good, and feel disgust before them at your lawless deeds and abominations.
36:32I am not acting because of you, says the Lord, the Lord; this will be known to you. Be ashamed and abashed because of your ways, house of Israel.
On the Day I Cleanse You
36:33Thus says the Lord: On the day I cleanse you from all your lawless deeds, I will cause the cities to be inhabited, and the wilderness places will be rebuilt.
36:34The devastated land will be worked, in place of its having been devastated before every passerby’s eyes.
36:35They will say, “That devastated land has become like a garden of delight, and the deserted, devastated, razed cities stand fortified.”
36:36The nations remaining around you will know that I, the Lord, have rebuilt the razed places and planted the devastated places. I, the Lord, have spoken and will act.
36:37Thus says the Lord: I will also be sought by Israel’s house to do this for them: I will multiply them, human beings like sheep.
36:38Like holy sheep, like Jerusalem’s sheep at her festivals, so the deserted cities will be filled with sheep who are human beings. They will know that I am the Lord.’”
