A Shoot from the Stump of Jesse

A Rod from Jesse’s Root

11:1A rod will come out from Jesse’s root, and a flower will rise from the root.

11:2God’s spirit will rest upon him: a spirit of wisdom and understanding, a spirit of counsel and strength, a spirit of knowledge and reverence;

11:3a spirit of God’s fear will fill him. He will not judge according to appearance or reprove according to talk,

11:4but will judge a case for a humble person and reprove the earth’s humble. He will strike the earth with his mouth’s word and destroy the ungodly by breath through his lips.

11:5He will have his waist girded with righteousness and his sides wrapped with truth.

11:6A wolf will graze with a lamb, and a leopard rest with a young goat; calf, bull and lion will graze together, and a small child will lead them.

Peace on the Holy Mountain and the Root of Jesse

11:7Cow and bear will graze together, and their young will be together; lion and cattle will eat straw together.

11:8An infant child will put a hand upon an asp’s hole and upon the resting place of young asps.

11:9They will certainly not do evil or be able to destroy anyone on My holy mountain, because the whole earth has been filled with knowing the Lord, like abundant water covering seas.

11:10On that day there will be Jesse’s root and the one rising to rule nations; nations will hope in him, and his rest will be honor.

The Lord Will Again Show His Hand

11:11On that day the Lord will again show His hand, to be zealous for the remaining remnant of the people left from the Assyrians, Egypt, Babylonia, Ethiopia, the Elamites, the sun’s rising and Arabia.

11:12He will raise a signal to the nations and gather Israel’s lost ones; He will gather Judah’s scattered ones from the earth’s four wings.

11:13Ephraim’s jealousy will be removed, and Judah’s enemies perish. Ephraim will not envy Judah, and Judah will not afflict Ephraim.

11:14They will fly in foreigners’ ships toward the sea; together they will plunder those from the sun’s rising and Idumea. Upon Moab they will first lay their hands, and Ammon’s sons will be the first to obey.

A Passage for the Remaining People

11:15The Lord will lay Egypt’s sea waste and bring His hand upon the river with a violent wind. He will strike seven ravines so that one may pass through it in sandals.

11:16There will be a passage for My remaining people in Egypt, and it will be for Israel as on the day it came out of Egypt’s land.
