Woe to Those Writing Wickedness
10:1Woe to those writing wickedness! For when they write, they write wickedness,
10:2turning aside the judgment of the poor, seizing the justice of My people’s needy, so that a widow becomes their prey and an orphan their plunder.
10:3What will they do on the day of visitation? For affliction will come to you from far away. To whom will you flee for help, and where will you leave your glory,
10:4so as not to fall into captivity? For all these things the anger did not turn away, but the hand is still high.
Woe to the Assyrians, the Rod of My Anger
10:5Woe to the Assyrians! The rod of My anger and wrath is in their hands.
10:6I will send My anger against a lawless nation, and I will command My people to take spoils and plunder, trample the cities and reduce them to dust.
10:7But he did not consider it this way and has not reckoned it this way in his soul; rather, his mind will turn aside, even to destroy not a few nations.
10:8If they say to him, “You alone are ruler,”
10:9he will say, “Did I not take the country above Babylon and Chalanneh, where the tower was built? I also took Arabia, Damascus and Samaria.
10:10As I took these in my hand, I will also take all the dominions. Wail, carved images in Jerusalem and Samaria!
10:11For as I did to Samaria and her handmade objects, so I will also do to Jerusalem and her idols.”
10:12When the Lord has finished doing all things on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, He will bring judgment upon the great mind—the ruler of the Assyrians—and upon the height of the glory of his eyes.
By Strength I Will Act
10:13For he said, “By strength I will act, and by the wisdom of understanding. I will remove nations’ boundaries, plunder their strength and shake inhabited cities.
10:14I will seize the whole inhabited world in my hand like a nest, and lift it like abandoned eggs. There is no one who will escape me or contradict me.”
10:15Will an ax be glorified without the one cutting with it, or a saw be raised without the one drawing it? Likewise, if someone lifts a rod or a piece of wood.
10:16And it will not be so; rather, the Lord Sabaoth will send dishonor against your honor, and against your glory a burning fire will burn.
The Consuming Fire and Israel’s Remainder
10:17Israel’s light will become fire, and He will sanctify him in burning fire and consume the woodland like grass. On that day,
10:18the mountains, hills and forests will be extinguished, and it will consume from soul to flesh. The one fleeing will be like someone fleeing from a burning flame.
10:19Those left from them will be a number, and a child will write them down.
10:20On that day Israel’s remainder will no longer continue, and Jacob’s survivors will certainly no longer trust those who wronged them; rather, they will trust God, Israel’s Holy One, in truth,
Jacob’s Remainder Will Return
10:21and Jacob’s remainder will be toward a mighty God.
10:22Even if Israel’s people becomes like the sea’s sand, their remnant will be saved; for He is completing and cutting short a word in righteousness,
10:23because God will carry out a shortened word in the whole inhabited world.
10:24Therefore thus says the Lord Sabaoth: “Do not fear the Assyrians, My people dwelling in Zion, because he will strike you with a rod; for I bring a blow upon you to see Egypt’s way.
10:25For yet a little while, and the wrath will cease, but My anger will be against their counsel.”
10:26God will rouse action against them according to Midian’s blow in a place of affliction, and His anger on the way by the sea, toward the way by Egypt.
His Fear Removed from You
10:27On that day his fear will be removed from you and his yoke from your shoulder, and the yoke will be destroyed from your shoulders.
10:28For he will come to the city of Angai, pass into Magedo, and deposit his equipment in Machmas,
10:29cross a ravine and come to Angai. Fear will seize Rama, Saul’s city; she will flee—
10:30Daughter Gallim. Laisa will listen, Anathoth will listen.
10:31Madebena and Gibbir’s residents were distraught. Offer encouragement,
10:32today along the way, to remain; with the hand offer encouragement, the mountain, Daughter Zion, and the hills in Jerusalem.
The Master Throws Down the Glorious Ones
10:33For look, the Master, the Lord Sabaoth, throws the glorious ones into confusion with strength; those lofty in insolence will be shattered, and the high brought low,
10:34and the high will fall by a sword, while Lebanon will fall with the high.
