The Utterance of Zion’s Ravine
22:1The utterance of Zion’s ravine. What happened to you now, that you all went up to the roofs,
22:2the futile roofs? The city filled with criers. Your wounded are not sword-wounded, nor your dead war-dead.
22:3All your rulers have fled; those captured are harshly bound, and the strong among you have fled far away.
22:4Therefore I said, “Leave me; I will weep bitterly. Do not insist on comforting me over the shattering of the daughter of my race.”
22:5For there is a day of disturbance, destruction, trampling and wandering from the Lord Sabaoth in Zion’s ravine. They wander from small to great; they wander upon the mountains.
22:6The Elamites took quivers, mounted men upon horses and an assembled battle line.
22:7Your chosen ravines will be filled with chariots, and the horsemen will block your gates,
22:8and they will uncover Judah’s gates and look on that day into the city’s choice houses,
The Hidden Things of the Houses Uncovered
22:9and uncover the hidden things of the houses in David’s citadel. They saw that they were many and that the old pool’s water had been diverted into the city,
22:10and that Jerusalem’s houses had been pulled down to fortify the city’s wall.
22:11You made water for yourselves between the two walls, inside the old pool, and did not look to the One who made her from the beginning or see the One who founded her.
22:12The Lord Sabaoth called on that day for weeping, lamentation, shaving and girding with sackcloth,
Let Us Eat and Drink
22:13but they made gladness and exultation, slaughtering calves and sacrificing sheep to eat meat and drink wine, saying, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!”
22:14These things are revealed in the Lord Sabaoth’s ears: “This sin will not be forgiven you until you die.”
Go into the Chamber, to Somnas
22:15Thus says the Lord Sabaoth: “Go into the chamber to Somnas the treasurer, and say to him,
22:16What are you here, and what is yours here, that you quarried yourself a memorial here, made yourself a memorial on high and inscribed yourself a dwelling in rock?
22:17Look, the Lord Sabaoth will cast out and crush a man and remove your robe,
22:18and your glorious crown, and throw you into a great and immeasurable country. There you will die; He will make your fine chariot dishonored and your ruler’s house a trampling place,
22:19and you will be removed from your stewardship and your standing.
I Will Call My Servant Eliakim
22:20On that day I will call My servant Eliakim, son of Chelkias,
22:21clothe him in your robe, give him your crown, and put the power and your stewardship in his hands. He will be like a father to those dwelling in Jerusalem and those dwelling in Judah.
22:22I will give him David’s glory, and he will rule, with no one contradicting.
22:23I will establish him as a ruler in a trustworthy place, and he will become a throne of glory for his father’s house.
22:24Every glorious person in his father’s house, from small to great, will trust in him, and they will hang upon him.
22:25On that day—thus says the Lord Sabaoth—the person established in a trustworthy place will be shaken and fall, and the glory upon him will be removed, because the Lord has spoken.”
