Children Shall Rule Over Them

The Master Removes Support from Jerusalem
3:1Look now, the Master, the Lord Sabaoth, will remove from Judea and Jerusalem strong man and strong woman, the strength of bread and the strength of water,
3:2giant and strong man and warrior and judge and prophet and conjecturer and elder,
3:3commander of fifty and admirable counselor and wise master builder and discerning listener.
3:4I will establish young men as their rulers, and mockers will lord it over them.
3:5The people will clash, person against person and each against his neighbor. The child will collide with the elder, the dishonored with the honored.
3:6For a man will seize his brother or a member of his father’s household, saying, “You have a cloak; become our leader, and let my food be under you!”
3:7Answering on that day, he will say, “I will not be your leader, for there is neither bread nor cloak in my house. I will not be leader of this people.”
3:8For Jerusalem has been abandoned and Judea has collapsed; their tongues accompany lawlessness, disobeying what concerns the Lord, because now their glory has been humbled,
The Shame of Their Face Stood Against Them
3:9and the shame of their face stood against them. They announced their sin like Sodom’s and made it manifest. Woe to their soul, for they have planned an evil plan against themselves,
3:10saying, “Let us bind the righteous person, because he is troublesome to us.” Therefore they will eat the produce of their works.
3:11Woe to the lawless! Evils according to his hands’ works will happen to him.
3:12My people, your collectors glean you, and those demanding payment lord it over you. My people, those pronouncing you blessed lead you astray and disturb the path of your feet.
The Lord Establishes Himself for Judgment
3:13But now the Lord will establish Himself for judgment and will set His people before judgment.
3:14The Lord Himself will come to judgment with the people’s elders and its rulers: “Why have you burned My vineyard, while the poor person’s plunder is in your houses?
3:15Why do you wrong My people and shame the face of the poor?”
3:16Thus says the Lord: “Because Zion’s daughters were exalted and walked with high neck and glancing eyes, dragging their tunics as their feet moved and playing with their feet,
Zion’s Ruling Daughters Humbled
3:17God will humble Zion’s ruling daughters, and the Lord will uncover their appearance
3:18on that day, and the Lord will remove the glory of their clothing and their ornaments, hair braids, fringes and crescents,
3:19the necklace and the adornment of their face,
3:20the arrangement of glorious adornment, armlets, bracelets, a hair braid, armbands, rings and earrings,
3:21the garments bordered with purple and those purple at the center,
3:22the coverings used about the house and the transparent Laconian garments,
3:23the fine-linen, blue-purple and scarlet garments, and fine linen interwoven with gold and blue-purple, and trailing summer wraps.
3:24Instead of sweet fragrance there will be dust; instead of a belt you will gird yourself with a cord; instead of golden head adornment you will have baldness because of your deeds; instead of the tunic with purple at its center you will gird yourself with sackcloth.
3:25Your most beautiful son, whom you love, will fall by the sword, and your strong men will fall by the sword.
3:26The cases of your adornment will be humbled and mourn; you will be left alone and dashed to the ground.”
