The Nations Summoned to Hear Their Sentence

Draw Near, Nations, and Hear

34:1Draw near, nations, and hear, rulers! Let the earth and those in it hear, the inhabited world and the people in it!

34:2For the Lord’s wrath is against all nations, and anger against their number, to destroy them and hand them over to slaughter.

34:3Their wounded and dead will be thrown out; their odor will rise, and mountains will be soaked with their blood.

34:4Heaven will roll up like a scroll, and all the stars will fall like leaves from a vine, like leaves falling from a fig tree.

The Lord’s Sword upon Idumea

34:5My sword became drunk in heaven. Look, it will descend upon Idumea and upon the people of destruction, with judgment.

34:6The Lord’s sword was filled with blood, thickened with lambs’ fat and the fat of male goats and rams, for the Lord has a sacrifice in Bosor and a great slaughter in Idumea.

34:7The stout ones will fall with them, and rams and bulls; the earth will become drunk with blood and be filled with their fat.

34:8For it is the Lord’s day of judgment and a year of repayment for Zion’s judgment.

Idumea Burned and Left Desolate

34:9Her ravines will turn to pitch, her earth to sulfur, and her land will burn like pitch

34:10night and day. It will not be quenched for an everlasting time, and her smoke will rise upward. For generations and a long time she will be deserted.

34:11Birds, hedgehogs, ibises and ravens will dwell in her; a measuring cord for deserted land will be cast upon her, and donkey-centaurs will dwell in her.

34:12Her rulers will be no more, for her kings, her rulers and her magnates will come to destruction.

Thorny Trees in Their Cities

34:13Thorny trees will sprout in their cities and her fortifications; she will become a dwelling for sirens and a courtyard for ostriches.

34:14Demons will meet donkey-centaurs and cry one to another. There donkey-centaurs will rest, for they found rest for themselves.

34:15There a hedgehog nested, and the earth kept her children safe. There deer met and saw one another’s faces;

34:16they passed by in number, and not one of them perished; none sought another, for the Lord commanded them and His spirit gathered them.

He Will Cast Lots for Them

34:17He Himself will cast lots for them, and His hand apportioned grazing. You will inherit for an everlasting time; for generations of generations they will rest upon her.
