Isaiah’s Vision of the Lord Enthroned

6:1In the year King Oziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a high and elevated throne, and the house was full of His glory.

6:2Seraphim stood around Him, six wings for one and six wings for another: with two they covered the face, with two they covered the feet, and with two they flew.

6:3They cried to one another and said, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Sabaoth; the whole earth is full of His glory.”

6:4The lintel was lifted at the voice with which they cried, and the house filled with smoke.

Wretched Am I, for I Am Stricken

6:5I said, “Wretched am I, for I am stricken! Being a human being with unclean lips, I dwell among a people with unclean lips, and I saw the King, the Lord Sabaoth, with my eyes.”

6:6One of the seraphim was sent to me; in its hand it held a coal that it had taken with tongs from the altar,

6:7and it touched my mouth and said, “Look, this has touched your lips and will remove your lawless deeds and thoroughly cleanse your sins.”

6:8I heard the Lord’s voice saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go to this people?” I said, “Here I am; send me!”

Go and Say to This People

6:9He said, “Go and say to this people: You will hear with your hearing and certainly not understand; looking, you will look and certainly not see.

6:10For this people’s heart grew fat; with their ears they heard heavily, and they closed their eyes, lest they see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, turn back, and I will heal them.”

6:11I said, “Until when, Lord?” He said, “Until cities are deserted for lack of habitation, houses for lack of human beings, and the land is left deserted.

6:12After these things God will send human beings far away, and those left behind will multiply upon the land.

6:13A tenth is still upon it, and it will again become plunder, like a terebinth and like an acorn when it falls from its case.”
