The Threat Against Jerusalem

7:1In the days of Achaz, son of Joatham, son of Oziah, king of Judea, Raasson king of Aram and Phakee son of Romelias, king of Israel, went up against Jerusalem to wage war on her, but they could not besiege her.

7:2It was reported to David’s house, “Aram has come to agreement with Ephraim.” His soul and his people’s soul were distraught, as when a tree in a wood is shaken by wind.

Go Out to Meet Achaz

7:3The Lord said to Isaiah, “Go out to meet Achaz, you and the remaining Jasub, your son, toward the pool of the upper road of the fuller’s field,

7:4and you will say to him, ‘Take care to be quiet, and do not fear; do not let your soul grow weak before these two smoking firebrand logs. For whenever the wrath of My anger comes, I will heal again.

7:5And the son of Aram and the son of Romelias, because they counseled an evil counsel concerning you, saying,

7:6“We will go up into Judea and, after speaking with them, turn them toward ourselves and make Tabeel’s son king over her,”

7:7thus says the Lord Sabaoth: “This counsel will certainly not endure, nor will it happen.

7:8But the head of Aram is Damascus; yet within another sixty-five years Ephraim’s kingdom will cease from being a people,

7:9and the head of Ephraim is Somoron, and the head of Somoron Romelias’s son. If you do not believe, you will certainly not understand.”’”

7:10The Lord spoke again to Achaz, saying,

Achaz Refuses to Ask a Sign

7:11“Ask a sign for yourself from the Lord your God, into depth or into height.”

7:12Achaz said, “I will certainly not ask, nor will I test the Lord.”

Listen, House of David

7:13He said, “Listen, then, house of David! Is it a small thing for you to cause people a struggle? And how is it that you cause the Lord a struggle?

7:14Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Look, the virgin will be with child and bear a son, and you will call his name Emmanuel.

7:15He will eat butter and honey; before he knows or prefers evil, he will choose the good.

7:16For before the child knows good or evil, he disobeys wickedness in order to choose the good, and the land that you fear because of the two kings will be abandoned.

God Will Bring upon You Days

7:17But God will bring upon you, upon your people and upon your father’s house days that have not yet come since the day He removed Ephraim from Judah—the king of the Assyrians.”

7:18On that day the Lord will whistle for flies—what rules a part of Egypt’s river—and for the bee that is in the Assyrians’ country,

7:19and they will all come and rest in the country’s ravines, in holes of the rocks, in the caves, in every fissure and in every tree.

7:20On that day the Lord will shave with the great and drunken razor that is beyond the river of the king of the Assyrians—the head and the hair of the feet—and He will remove the beard.

A Heifer and Two Sheep on That Day

7:21On that day a person will raise a heifer from the cattle and two sheep,

7:22and because they produce very much milk, everyone left upon the land will eat butter and honey.

7:23On that day every place where there are a thousand vines worth a thousand shekels will become fallow ground and thorn.

7:24With missile and arrow they will enter there, because all the land will be fallow ground and thorn.

7:25Every mountain that is plowed will be plowed, and fear will certainly not come there; for from fallow ground and thorn it will become pasture for sheep and a trampling place for cattle.
