They Plan Evil on Their Beds and Do It at Dawn

Those Who Plan Troubles on Their Beds

2:1They became people planning troubles and working evil on their beds, and at daybreak they carried them out, because they did not raise their hands to God.

2:2They coveted fields and plundered orphans, oppressed houses and plundered a man and his house, a man and his inheritance.

2:3Therefore thus says the Lord: “Look, I am planning calamities against this tribe, from which you will certainly not lift your necks, and you will certainly not suddenly walk upright, for it is an evil time.

2:4On that day a parable will be taken up against you, and a lament will be sung in melody, saying: ‘We have suffered grievous misery! The portion of My people was measured with a cord, and there was no one to prevent him from turning away; our fields were divided.’

2:5Therefore you will have no one casting a measuring cord by lot in the assembly of the Lord.

The Leaders of the People Cast Out

2:6Do not weep with tears, nor let them shed tears over these things, for he will not reject reproaches.

2:7The one who says, ‘Jacob’s house has provoked the Lord’s Spirit’: Are these his practices? Are not his words good with him, and have they walked uprightly?

2:8And formerly My people stood opposed in enmity; facing his peace, they flayed his skin to take away hope—a shattering of war.

2:9Therefore the leaders of My people will be cast out of their luxurious houses; because of their evil practices they were expelled. Draw near to everlasting mountains!

2:10Rise and go, for this is no resting place for you because of uncleanness. You were corrupted with corruption,

2:11you were pursued with no one pursuing. A spirit established falsehood; it dripped to you into wine and strong drink. And it will be from the drop of this people:

Jacob Will Surely Be Gathered

2:12Jacob will surely be gathered with everyone. I will surely receive Israel’s remaining ones; I will put their turning back together. Like sheep in affliction, like a flock within their resting place, they will leap out from among people.

2:13Through the breach before them they broke through, passed a gate and went out through it. Their king went out before them, and the Lord will lead them.”
