Rulers Who Eat the Flesh of My People

Hear, Authorities of Jacob’s House

3:1He will say: “Hear these things now, authorities of Jacob’s house and remaining ones of Israel’s house! Is it not for you to know justice,

3:2you who hate good things and seek evil things, who snatch their skins from them and their flesh from their bones?”

3:3Just as they ate the flesh of My people, flayed their skins from their bones, crushed their bones and divided them into pieces like flesh for a cauldron and meat for a cooking pot,

3:4so they will cry to the Lord, but He will not listen to them. He will turn His face away from them at that time, because they acted wickedly in their practices against them.

Against the Prophets Who Lead My People Astray

3:5Thus says the Lord concerning the prophets who lead My people astray, who bite with their teeth and proclaim peace to him; but when nothing was put into their mouths, they raised war against him:

3:6“Therefore you will have night instead of vision and darkness instead of divination; the sun will set upon the prophets, and the day will darken over them.

3:7Those seeing dreams will be ashamed and the diviners mocked; all of them will speak against them, because there will be no one listening to them,

3:8unless I fill up strength in the Spirit of the Lord and of judgment and might, to declare to Jacob his impieties and to Israel his sins.”

Zion Will Be Plowed Like a Field

3:9Hear these things now, leaders of Jacob’s house and remaining ones of Israel’s house, who abhor justice and twist all straight things,

3:10you who build Zion with bloodshed and Jerusalem with injustices!

3:11Her leaders judged with gifts, her priests answered for wages and her prophets divined for silver; yet they relied upon the Lord, saying, “Is not the Lord among us? Calamities will certainly not come upon us.”

3:12Therefore, because of you, Zion will be plowed like a field, Jerusalem will be like a fruit watcher’s hut, and the mountain of the house like a forest grove.
