I Am the Door of the Sheep

The One Who Does Not Enter by the Door
10:1“Amen, amen, I tell you: the one who does not enter the sheepfold through the door, but climbs in from elsewhere, is a thief and a robber.
10:2But the one who enters through the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
10:3To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
10:4When he has brought all his own out, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, because they know his voice.
10:5But they will certainly not follow a stranger; rather, they will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers.”
10:6Jesus spoke this figure of speech to them, but they did not understand what the things were that He was speaking to them.
I Am the Door of the Sheep
10:7So Jesus spoke to them again: “Amen, amen, I tell you that I am the door of the sheep.
10:8All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.
10:9I am the door. If anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and go out and find pasture.
10:10The thief comes only to steal and slaughter and destroy. I came so that they may have life and have abundance.
I Am the Good Shepherd
10:11I am the good Shepherd. The good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.
10:12The hired worker, who is not a shepherd and whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees—and the wolf seizes them and scatters them—
10:13because he is a hired worker and has no care for the sheep.
10:14I am the good Shepherd, and I know My own, and My own know Me,
10:15just as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.
10:16And I have other sheep that are not from this fold. I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice, and they will become one flock, one shepherd.
10:17For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life, so that I may take it again.
10:18No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down from Myself. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it again. This command I received from My Father.”
Division over His Words
10:19Division arose again among the Jews because of these words.
10:20Many of them said, “He has a demon and is mad. Why do you listen to Him?”
10:21Others said, “These are not the words of a demon-possessed person. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?”
The Feast of Dedication
10:22Then the feast of Dedication took place in Jerusalem. It was winter,
10:23and Jesus was walking in the temple, in Solomon’s Portico.
10:24So the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him, “How long will You keep our soul in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us openly.”
10:25Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works I do in My Father’s name bear witness concerning Me.
10:26But you do not believe, because you are not from My sheep.
10:27My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
10:28And I give them eternal life, and they will certainly never perish, and no one will snatch them from My hand.
10:29My Father, in regard to what He has given Me, is greater than all, and no one can snatch from the Father’s hand.
10:30I and the Father are one.”
The Attempt to Stone Him
10:31Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him.
10:32Jesus answered them, “I showed you many good works from the Father. For which work among them do you stone Me?”
10:33The Jews answered Him, “We do not stone You for a good work, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a man, make Yourself God.”
10:34Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I said, you are gods’?
10:35If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came—and the Scripture cannot be broken—
10:36do you say to the One whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You blaspheme,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’?
10:37If I do not do My Father’s works, do not believe Me.
10:38But if I do them, even if you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and continue to know that the Father is in Me and I in the Father.”
10:39So they sought again to seize Him, and He went out from their hand.
Beyond the Jordan
10:40And He went away again beyond the Jordan, to the place where John was first baptizing, and remained there.
10:41Many came to Him and said, “John indeed did no sign, but everything John said concerning this man was true.”
10:42And many believed in Him there.
