They came to Jericho. And behold, two blind men were sitting beside the road; one was Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, a blind beggar. Hearing a crowd passing through, he asked what this might be. They told him, “Jesus the Nazarene is passing by.” They cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” Those going ahead, and many in the crowd, rebuked them to make them silent, but they cried all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on us!”

Jesus stopped and ordered them to be brought to Him. The people called Bartimaeus, “Take courage! Get up; He is calling you.” Throwing off his garment, he sprang up and came to Jesus. Jesus asked, “What do you wish Me to do for you?” They answered, “Lord, that our eyes may be opened.” Bartimaeus said, “Rabbouni, that I may see again.” Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes and said, “Receive your sight. Go; your faith has saved you.” Immediately they received sight and followed Him on the road, glorifying God. All the people, seeing it, gave praise to God, and a great crowd followed Him.
