“So when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of through Daniel the prophet standing in a holy place—let the reader understand— then let those in Judea flee to the mountains. Let the one on the housetop not go down to take things from his house, and let the one in the field not turn back to take his cloak. Woe to those with child and those nursing infants in those days! Pray that your flight may not occur in winter or on a Sabbath. For then there will be great affliction such as has not happened from the beginning of the world until now, and certainly will never happen again. If those days had not been shortened, no flesh would have been saved; but because of the chosen, those days will be shortened.
“When you see the abomination standing where it ought not, and Jerusalem surrounded by armies, know that her desolation has drawn near. Let those within her depart, and let those in the countryside not enter her. These are days of vengeance, for all that is written to be fulfilled. There will be great distress upon the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and be led captive among all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled by nations until the times of nations are fulfilled. The distress will be such as has not occurred since the beginning of the creation God created, and never will again. For the elect whom He chose, the Lord has shortened the days.
“Then if anyone tells you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ!’ or ‘Here!’ do not believe it. For false christs and false prophets will arise and give great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the chosen. Behold, I have told you beforehand. So if they tell you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or ‘Behold, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. For just as lightning comes from the east and shines to the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Wherever the corpse is, there the eagles will gather.
“Take heed; I have told you everything beforehand.
“Immediately after the affliction of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its brightness, the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn; they will see the Son of Man coming upon the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. He will send His angels with a great trumpet, and they will gather His chosen from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
“On the earth the nations will be in distress, perplexed by the roar and surging of the sea. People will faint from fear and expectation of what is coming upon the inhabited world. The Son of Man will come in a cloud with power and great glory, and His angels will gather His elect from the end of the earth to the end of heaven. When these things begin, straighten up and lift your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
