The First Sign at Cana

And on the third day a wedding took place in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and His disciples were also invited to the wedding. When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “What is this to Me and to you, woman? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He tells you, do.” Now six stone water jars were set there for the purification of the Jews, each holding two or three metretes. Jesus said to them, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them to the top. And He said to them, “Draw some out now and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. When the master of the feast tasted the water that had become wine and did not know where it came from—though the servants who had drawn the water knew—the master of the feast called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone sets out the good wine first, and when people have become drunk, the inferior wine. You have kept the good wine until now.”

Jesus did this as the beginning of His signs in Cana of Galilee and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him. After this He went down to Capernaum, He and His mother and the brothers and His disciples, and they stayed there not many days.
