John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. They came to Jesus and asked, “Why do John’s disciples fast often and offer petitions, and likewise those of the Pharisees, but Yours eat and drink and do not fast?” Jesus answered, “Can the wedding guests mourn or fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. But days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days.”

He also told them a parable: “No one tears a patch from a new garment and puts it on an old garment. Otherwise he tears the new one, and the patch does not match the old. A patch of unshrunk cloth pulls away from the old garment, and a worse tear results. Nor do people put new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise the skins burst, the wine spills out, and the skins are ruined. Instead, they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved. And no one who has drunk old wine desires new, for he says, ‘The old is good.’”
