Great crowds followed Jesus as He came down from the mountain. While He was in one of the cities, a man full of leprosy came to Him. Seeing Jesus, he fell on his face, knelt before Him, and pleaded, “Lord, if You are willing, You can cleanse me.” Becoming angry, Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing. Be cleansed.” Immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.

Sternly warning him, He immediately drove him away and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.” But he went out and began proclaiming it widely and spreading the report, so that Jesus could no longer enter a city openly. He remained outside in deserted places, and they came to Him from every direction.

The report about Him spread still more, and great crowds gathered to hear Him and to be healed of their infirmities. But He would withdraw into the wilderness and pray.
