One of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. He entered the Pharisee’s house and reclined at table. And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner learned that He was reclining in the Pharisee’s house. She brought an alabaster vessel of perfume and stood behind Him at His feet, weeping. She began to wet His feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. She kept kissing His feet and anointing them with the perfume. When the Pharisee who had invited Him saw it, he said within himself, “If this man were a prophet, He would know who and what sort of woman is touching Him, that she is a sinner.” Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” He said, “Teacher, say it.” “A certain lender had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii and the other fifty. Since they had nothing with which to repay, he graciously forgave them both. Which of them, then, will love him more?” Simon answered, “I suppose the one to whom he forgave more.” He said to him, “You judged correctly.”
Turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You gave Me no kiss, but from the time I entered she has not stopped kissing My feet. You did not anoint My head with oil, but she anointed My feet with perfume. For this reason I tell you: her many sins are forgiven, because she loved much. But the one who is forgiven little loves little.” He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” Those reclining with Him began to say within themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?” He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go into peace.”
