He came into a house, and the crowd gathered again, so that they could not even eat bread. When His own people heard, they went out to take hold of Him, for they were saying, “He is out of His mind.”
A man oppressed by a demon, blind and mute, was brought to Jesus. He cast out the demon and healed the man, so that he spoke and saw. The crowds marveled and asked, “Could this be the Son of David?” But Pharisees and scribes who had come down from Jerusalem said, “He has Beelzebul. By the ruler of the demons He casts out demons.” Others tested Him by seeking a sign from heaven. Knowing their thoughts, Jesus called them to Himself and spoke in parables.
Knowing their thoughts, He said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges. But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
“If Satan has risen against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but has come to an end. When the strong man, fully armed, guards his own courtyard, his possessions are at peace. But when a stronger one attacks and overcomes him, he takes away the armor in which he trusted and distributes his spoils. No one can enter the strong man’s house and plunder his belongings unless he first binds the strong man; then he will plunder his house. If I cast out demons by God’s finger, then God’s kingdom has come upon you.
“Whoever is not with Me is against Me, and whoever does not gather with Me scatters. Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the coming one.
“Whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit has no forgiveness forever, but is liable for an eternal sin.” He said this because they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”
“Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree rotten and its fruit rotten; for the tree is known by the fruit. Brood of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person brings forth good things from the good treasure, and the evil person brings forth evil things from the evil treasure. But I tell you that people will give account on the day of judgment for every idle word they speak. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
