Again a great crowd had nothing to eat. Jesus called His disciples and said, “I am moved with compassion for the crowd, because they have already stayed with Me three days and have nothing to eat. I am unwilling to send them home fasting, lest they collapse on the road; some have come from far away.” His disciples answered, “Where can anyone get enough bread in this wilderness to fill so great a crowd?” He asked, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven, and a few small fish.”

He instructed the crowd to recline on the ground. Taking the seven loaves, He gave thanks, broke them, and kept giving them to His disciples, and the disciples set them before the crowd. He blessed the fish and ordered these also to be distributed. All ate and were filled, and they gathered seven large baskets full of leftover pieces. Those eating were about four thousand men, besides women and children. He dismissed the crowds, immediately entered the boat with His disciples, and came to the territory of Magadan, the district of Dalmanutha.
