The Mouth of the Righteous Is a Well of Life

10:1A wise son makes a father glad,
but a foolish son is grief to his mother.
10:2Treasures will not profit lawless people,
but righteousness will rescue from death.
10:3The Lord will not starve a righteous life,
but He will overturn the life of the impious.
10:4Poverty humbles a man,
but the hands of the courageous make rich.
10:4aA disciplined son will be wise,
and he will use the foolish one as a servant.
10:5An intelligent son was preserved from scorching heat,
but a lawless son is ruined by wind at harvest.
10:6The Lord’s blessing is upon the head of the righteous,
but untimely mourning will cover the mouth of the impious.
10:7The memory of righteous people is with praises,
but the name of the impious is extinguished.
10:8One wise in heart will receive commands,
but the unrestrained person who twists things with his lips will be tripped up.
10:9One who walks sincerely walks confidently,
but one who perverts his ways will be known.
10:10One who signals with his eyes deceitfully gathers griefs for people,
but one who reproves with frankness makes peace.
10:11A fountain of life is in the hand of the righteous,
but destruction will cover the mouth of the impious.
10:12Hatred raises strife,
but friendship covers all who do not love strife.
10:13One who brings forth wisdom from his lips
strikes a man lacking heart with a rod.
10:14Wise people will hide discernment,
but the mouth of a rash person draws near to ruin.
10:15The possession of the rich is a fortified city,
but the ruin of the impious is poverty.
10:16The works of the righteous produce life,
but the fruits of the impious produce sins.
10:17Discipline guards righteous paths of life,
but discipline that goes unreproved wanders.
10:18Righteous lips conceal enmity,
but those who bring forth abuse are most foolish.
10:19Through much talking you will not escape sin,
but by sparing your lips you will be intelligent.
10:20The tongue of the righteous is fire-tested silver,
but the heart of the impious will fail.
10:21The lips of the righteous know lofty things,
but fools die in want.
10:22The Lord’s blessing is upon the head of the righteous;
it makes rich, and sorrow in the heart will certainly not be added to it.
10:23A fool does evil things in laughter,
but wisdom gives birth to understanding for a man.
10:24An impious person is swept about in destruction,
but the desire of the righteous is acceptable.
10:25When a storm passes by, the impious disappears,
but the righteous turns aside and is saved forever.
10:26As an unripe grape is harmful to teeth and smoke to eyes,
so is lawlessness to those who practice it.
10:27The fear of the Lord adds days,
but the years of the impious will become few.
10:28Gladness stays long with the righteous,
but the hope of the impious perishes.
10:29The fear of the Lord is a stronghold for the devout,
but ruin for those who do evil.
10:30The righteous will never give way,
but the impious will not inhabit the earth.
10:31The mouth of the righteous drips wisdom,
but the tongue of the unjust will be destroyed.
10:32The lips of righteous men drip gracious things,
but the mouth of the impious turns away.
