A False Balance Is an Abomination

11:1Deceitful scales are an abomination before the Lord,
but a just weight is acceptable to Him.
11:2Wherever insolence enters, dishonor is there too,
but the mouth of the humble meditates on wisdom.
11:3A righteous person, when he died, left regret,
but the destruction of the impious is ready at hand and welcomed with joy.
11:5Righteousness cuts blameless paths straight,
but impiety falls into injustice.
11:6The righteousness of upright men rescues them,
but lawless people are caught in their own destruction.
11:7When a righteous man dies, hope does not perish,
but the boast of the impious perishes.
11:8The righteous escapes from the hunt,
but the impious is handed over in his place.
11:9In the mouth of the impious is a trap for citizens,
but the discernment of the righteous has a good course.
11:10Through the good things of the righteous a city prospered,
11:11but by the mouths of the impious it was razed.
11:12One lacking understanding sneers at citizens,
but an intelligent man keeps quiet.
11:13A double-tongued man reveals plans in a council,
but one faithful in breath conceals matters.
11:14Those who have no steering fall like leaves,
but deliverance is in much counsel.
11:15An evil person does harm when he mixes with a righteous person,
and he hates the sound of security.
11:16A gracious woman raises glory for her husband,
but a woman who hates righteous things is a throne of dishonor.
The lazy become lacking in wealth,
but the courageous lean upon wealth.
11:17A merciful man does good to his own life,
but the merciless destroys his own body.
11:18The impious does unjust works,
but the seed of righteous people is a reward of truth.
11:19A righteous son is born for life,
but pursuit of the impious is for death.
11:20Perverted ways are an abomination to the Lord,
but all who are blameless in their ways are acceptable to Him.
11:21One who unjustly puts hands into a hand will not go unpunished,
but one who sows righteousness will receive a faithful reward.
11:22As a ring in a pig’s snout,
so is beauty for a woman of bad judgment.
11:23Every desire of the righteous is good,
but the hope of the impious will perish.
11:24There are those who sow their own things and produce more,
and there are those who gather and become diminished.
11:25Every blessed life is sincere,
but an irascible man is not becoming.
11:26May one who holds grain back leave it to the nations,
but blessing is upon the head of one who shares it.
11:27One who devises good things seeks good favor,
but evil will overtake the one who searches for it.
11:28One who trusts in wealth will fall,
but one who supports righteous people will spring up.
11:29One who does not deal well with his own household will inherit wind,
and a fool will serve an intelligent person.
11:30From the fruit of righteousness a tree of life grows,
but the lives of lawless people are taken away before their time.
11:31If the righteous is scarcely saved,
where will the impious and sinner appear?
