123:1A song of the ascents.
Had the Lord not been among us—
let Israel now say—
123:2had the Lord not been among us
when people rose against us,
123:3then they would have swallowed us alive
when their fury was kindled against us.
123:4Then the water drowned us;
our soul passed through a torrent.
123:5Then our soul passed through
the irresistible water.
123:6Blessed be the Lord,
who did not give us as prey to their teeth.
123:7Our soul was rescued like a little bird
from the trap of hunters;
the trap was shattered, and we were rescued.
123:8Our help is in the Lord’s name,
who made heaven and earth.
