138:1For the end. A psalm for David.
Lord, You tested me and knew me.
138:2You knew my sitting and my rising;
You understood my reasonings from afar.
138:3You traced my path and my measuring cord,
and You foresaw all my ways.
138:4For there is no word on my tongue,
138:5look, Lord, You knew all things, the last and the first;
You formed me and placed Your hand upon me.
138:6Your knowledge was made wondrous beyond me;
it grew strong—I cannot reach it.
138:7Where can I go from Your Spirit,
and where can I flee from Your face?
138:8If I ascend to heaven, You are there;
if I descend into Hades, You are present.
138:9if I take up my wings at dawn
and settle at the sea’s farthest reaches,
138:10indeed, even there Your hand will guide me,
and Your right hand will hold me fast.
138:11And I said, “Then darkness will trample me,
and night is illumination in my delight.”
138:12For darkness will not be dark from You,
and night will be illuminated like day;
as its darkness, so also its light.
138:13For You acquired my kidneys, Lord;
You supported me from my mother’s womb.
138:14I will thank You, for I was made fearfully wonderful;
wondrous are Your works,
and my soul knows very well.
138:15My bone was not hidden from You, which You made in secret,
and my substance in earth’s lowest places.
138:16Your eyes saw my unworked substance,
and in Your book all will be written;
they will be formed over days, and none among them.
138:17Your friends were greatly honored by me, God;
their beginnings grew very strong.
138:18I will count them, and they will multiply beyond the sand;
I awoke, and I am still with You.
138:19If You kill sinners, God—
men of blood, turn away from me,
138:20for You will speak into deliberation;
they will take Your cities into vanity.
138:21Did I not hate those who hate You, Lord,
and melt away over Your enemies?
138:22I hated them with complete hatred;
they became enemies to me.
138:23Test me, God, and know my heart;
examine me and know my paths,
138:24and see whether a way of lawlessness is in me,
and guide me in an eternal way.
