52:1For the end. Concerning Maeleth. Of understanding, of David.

52:2A fool said in his heart, “There is no God.”

They became corrupt and abominable in lawless deeds;

there is no one doing good.

52:3God bent down from heaven toward the sons of humankind,

to see whether anyone understands or seeks God.

52:4All turned aside; together they became useless;

there is no one doing good, not a single one.

52:5Will all who work lawlessness not learn?

Those eating my people like the eating of bread did not call on God.

52:6There they will fear greatly where there was no fear,

for God scattered the bones of people-pleasers.

They were put to shame, for God despised them.

52:7Who will give Israel’s salvation from Zion?

When the Lord turns back His people’s captivity,

Jacob will exult and Israel will rejoice.
