They Return at Evening and Howl Like Dogs

58:1For the end. Do not destroy. Of David, for an inscription on a pillar, when Saul sent and watched his house to put him to death.

58:2Take me out from my enemies, God,

and redeem me from those rising against me.

58:3Deliver me from those working lawlessness,

and save me from men of bloodshed.

58:4For look, they hunted my soul;

powerful men attacked me.

Neither my lawlessness nor my sin, Lord—

58:5without lawlessness they ran and made straight.

Awake to meet me, and see!

58:6And You, Lord, God of powers, God of Israel,

attend to visiting all the nations;

have no compassion on any who work lawlessness. Diapsalma.

58:7They will return toward evening, hunger like a dog,

and circle a city.

58:8Look, they will speak out with their mouths,

and a sword is on their lips;

for who has heard?

58:9And You, Lord, will laugh them to scorn;

You will reduce all nations to nothing.

58:10My strength—I will keep watch toward You,

for You, God, are my supporter.

58:11My God—His mercy will reach me first;

God will show me what concerns my enemies.

58:12Do not kill them, lest they forget my people;

scatter them by Your power and bring them down,

Lord, my defender.

58:13The sin of their mouth, the word of their lips—

let them be caught in their arrogance;

and from curse and falsehood consummations will be announced

58:14in the anger of consummation, and they shall certainly not exist;

and they will know that God rules Jacob and the ends of the earth. Diapsalma.

58:15They will return toward evening, hunger like a dog,

and circle a city.

58:16They will be scattered in search of food;

and if they are not filled, they will grumble.

58:17But I will sing to Your power

and exult in Your mercy in the morning,

for You became my supporter

and a refuge in the day of my affliction.

58:18My helper, I will make music to You,

for You, God, are my supporter,

my God, my mercy.
