Greek Psalm 78
They Poured Out Their Blood Like Water Around Jerusalem
← Greek Psalm 77 · Psalms: all chapters · Greek Psalm 79 →
78:1A psalm for Asaph.
God, nations entered Your inheritance;
they defiled Your holy temple;
they made Jerusalem into a fruit-watchman’s hut.
78:2They made the dead bodies of Your servants
food for the birds of heaven,
the flesh of Your holy ones for the beasts of the earth.
78:3They poured out their blood like water
around Jerusalem,
and there was no one to bury them.
78:4We became a reproach to our neighbors,
sneering and ridicule to those around us.
78:5How long, Lord? Will You be angry to the end?
Will Your jealousy blaze like fire?
78:6Pour out Your wrath upon nations that do not know You,
and upon kingdoms that did not call on Your name,
78:7for they devoured Jacob
and made his place desolate.
78:8Do not remember our ancient acts of lawlessness;
let Your compassions swiftly reach us first,
for we became very poor.
78:9Help us, God our Savior.
For the glory of Your name, Lord, rescue us,
and be propitious toward our sins
for Your name’s sake,
78:10lest the nations say, “Where is their God?”
And let vengeance for the poured-out blood of Your servants
be known among the nations before our eyes.
78:11Let the groaning of those in bonds enter before You;
according to the greatness of Your arm,
preserve the sons of those put to death.
78:12Repay our neighbors sevenfold into their bosom
their insult with which they insulted You, Lord.
78:13But we, Your people and the sheep of Your pasture,
will give You thanks forever;
from generation to generation we will proclaim Your praise.
