Greek Psalm 88
I Will Establish His Seed Forever, and His Throne as the Days of Heaven

88:1Of understanding; of Ethan the Israelite.
88:2I will sing of Your mercies, Lord, forever;
from generation to generation I will proclaim Your truth with my mouth,
88:3for You said, “Mercy will be built forever;
in the heavens Your truth will be prepared.”
88:4“I made a covenant with My chosen ones;
I swore to David My servant:
88:5‘I will prepare your seed forever
and build your throne from generation to generation.’”
Diapsalma.
88:6The heavens will acknowledge Your wonders, Lord,
and Your truth in an assembly of holy ones.
88:7For who in clouds will be equaled to the Lord,
and who among sons of God will be likened to the Lord?
88:8God is glorified in the council of holy ones,
great and fearsome above all around Him.
88:9Lord, God of powers, who is like You?
You are mighty, Lord, and Your truth surrounds You.
88:10You rule the sea’s might,
and You quiet the surge of its waves.
88:11You humbled a proud one like a wounded man,
and with the arm of Your power You scattered Your enemies.
88:12The heavens are Yours, and the earth is Yours;
the inhabited world and its fullness—You founded them.
88:13The north and seas—You created them;
Tabor and Hermon will exult in Your name.
88:14Yours is the arm with dominion;
let Your hand be strengthened; let Your right hand be raised.
88:15Righteousness and judgment are the preparation of Your throne;
mercy and truth will go ahead before Your face.
88:16Blessed are the people who know the cry of triumph;
Lord, they will walk in the light of Your face,
88:17and in Your name they will exult all day,
and in Your righteousness they will be raised up.
88:18For You are the boast of their power,
and by Your favor our horn will be raised.
88:19For support belongs to the Lord,
and to the Holy One of Israel, our King.
88:20Then You spoke in a vision to Your holy ones and said:
“I placed help upon a powerful man;
I raised a chosen one from My people.
88:21I found David My servant;
with My holy oil I anointed him,
88:22for My hand will support him,
and My arm will strengthen him.
88:23An enemy will not gain by him,
and a son of lawlessness will not go on to harm him.
88:24I will cut down his enemies before him
and put those who hate him to flight.
88:25My truth and My mercy will be with him,
and in My name his horn will be raised.
88:26I will set his hand in the sea
and his right hand in rivers.
88:27He will call on Me, ‘You are my Father,
my God and the supporter of my salvation.’
88:28And I will make him firstborn,
high among the kings of the earth.
88:29Forever I will keep My mercy for him,
and My covenant is faithful to him.
88:30I will establish his seed for an age of an age
and his throne like the days of heaven.
88:31If his sons abandon My law
and do not walk in My judgments,
88:32if they profane My ordinances
and do not keep My commandments,
88:33I will visit their lawless acts with a rod
and their sins with scourges;
88:34but I shall certainly not scatter My mercy away from him,
nor act unjustly in My truth,
88:35nor shall I profane My covenant,
and what goes out through My lips I shall certainly not set aside.
88:36Once I swore by My holiness:
I will not lie to David.
88:37His seed will remain forever,
and his throne will be like the sun before Me,
88:38and like the moon, established forever;
and the witness in heaven is faithful.”
Diapsalma.
88:39But You rejected and treated as nothing;
You put off Your anointed.
88:40You overturned Your servant’s covenant;
You profaned his consecrated thing to the ground.
88:41You tore down all his fences;
You made his fortifications cowardice.
88:42All who travel the road plundered him;
he became a reproach to his neighbors.
88:43You raised the right hand of his enemies;
You gladdened all his enemies.
88:44You turned back the help of his sword
and did not support him in war.
88:45You removed him from purification;
You dashed his throne down to the ground.
88:46You shortened the days of his time;
You poured shame over him.
Diapsalma.
88:47How long, Lord? Will You turn away to the end?
Will Your wrath blaze like fire?
88:48Remember what my existence is;
for surely You did not create all the sons of human beings in vain?
88:49Who is the person who will live and not see death,
who will deliver his soul from the hand of Hades?
Diapsalma.
88:50Where are Your ancient mercies, Lord,
which You swore to David in Your truth?
88:51Remember, Lord, the reproach of Your servants,
which I bore in my bosom from many nations,
88:52with which Your enemies reproached, Lord,
with which they reproached the exchange of Your anointed.
88:53Blessed be the Lord forever.
May it be; may it be.
