A Thousand Years in Your Sight Are as Yesterday

89:1A prayer of Moses, the man of God.

Lord, You became our refuge through every generation.

89:2Before the mountains came to be

and the earth and inhabited world were formed,

from age to age You are.

89:3Do not turn a human toward humiliation;

and You said, Return, children of humankind.

89:4For a thousand years in Your eyes

are like yesterday, which passed,

and a watch in the night.

89:5Their things counted as nothing will be years.

In the morning, like green grass, may it pass away;

89:6in the morning may it blossom and pass away;

in the evening may it fall, grow hard and dry up.

89:7For we failed in Your anger

and were troubled in Your wrath.

89:8You set our lawless deeds before You;

our age is in the illumination of Your face.

89:9For all our days failed,

and in Your anger we failed;

I pondered our years like a spider.

89:10The days of our years—in them are seventy years,

or, with strength, eighty years;

the greater part of them is toil and pain,

for gentleness came upon us, and we shall be disciplined.

89:11Who knows the might of Your anger,

and Your wrath from the fear of You?

89:12So make known how to number Your right hand,

and those bound in heart in wisdom.

89:13Return, Lord—how long?

Be moved concerning Your servants.

89:14We were filled in the morning with Your mercy,

and we exulted and rejoiced all our days.

89:15We were glad in return for the days You humbled us,

the years when we saw evils.

89:16Look upon Your servants and Your works,

and guide their children.

89:17Let the splendor of the Lord our God be upon us,

and direct the works of our hands for us.
