1:1The Song of Songs, which belongs to Solomon.

1:2Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth, for your breasts are better than wine.

1:3The fragrance of your perfumes surpasses all spices; your name is perfume poured out. That is why young women loved you,

1:4They drew you; after you we shall run into the fragrance of your perfumes. The king brought me into his chamber. Let us exult and rejoice in you; we shall love your breasts more than wine. Uprightness loved you.

1:5I am black and beautiful, daughters of Jerusalem, like the tents of Kedar, like Solomon’s tent coverings.

1:6Do not look at me because I have been darkened, because the sun looked upon me. My mother’s sons fought against me; they made me a keeper in vineyards. My own vineyard I did not keep.

1:7Tell me, you whom my soul loved, where you pasture, where you rest at noon, lest I become like a woman covering herself beside your companions’ herds.

1:8If you do not know yourself, beautiful among women, go out along the heels of the flocks and pasture your young goats beside the shepherds’ tents.

1:9I have compared you, my companion, to my mare among Pharaoh’s chariots.

1:10How beautiful your cheeks have become, like turtledoves, and your neck like necklaces!

1:11We will make you likenesses of gold with dots of silver.

1:12While the king was reclining, my nard gave its fragrance.

1:13My kinsman is to me a bundle of liquid myrrh; he will lodge between my breasts.

1:14My kinsman is to me a cluster of henna in the vineyards of En-gedi.

1:15Look, you are beautiful, my companion! Look, you are beautiful; your eyes are doves.

1:16Look, you are beautiful, my kinsman, and indeed lovely! Moreover, our bed is shaded.

1:17The beams of our houses are cedars; our ceiling panels are cypresses.
