Those Who Came Back and Kept the Gates

The Enrollment and the Return from Captivity
9:1All Israel—their enrollment—these are recorded in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, with those deported to Babylon for their lawlessness.
9:2Those who formerly dwelt in their possessions in the cities were Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the given ones.
Those Who Dwelt in Jerusalem
9:3In Jerusalem dwelt some of the sons of Judah, of the sons of Benjamin, and of the sons of Ephraim and Manasseh:
9:4Gothi son of Ammioud, son of Amri, a son of the sons of Phares son of Judah.
9:5From the Selonites: Asaia his firstborn and his sons.
9:6From Zara’s sons: Jiiel and their brothers, six hundred ninety.
9:7From Benjamin’s sons: Salo son of Mosollam, son of Odouia, son of Sanaa,
9:8Ibanaa son of Iraam—and these were sons of Ozi son of Machir—and Massalem son of Saphatia son of Ragouel son of Banaia.
9:9Their brothers, according to their generations, were nine hundred fifty-six, all the men rulers of ancestral houses according to their ancestral houses.
The Priests
9:10From the priests: Jodae, Joarim, and Jachin,
9:11Azaria son of Chelkia, son of Mosollam, son of Sadok, son of Maraioth, son of Achitob, leader of the house of God,
9:12Adaia son of Iraam, son of Paschor, son of Malchia; and Maasaia son of Adiel, son of Jediou, son of Mosollam, son of Maselmoth, son of Emmer.
9:13Their brothers, rulers of ancestral houses, numbered one thousand seven hundred sixty, strong in power for the work of ministry in the house of God.
The Levites
9:14From the Levites: Samaia son of Asob, son of Esrikam, son of Asabia, from Merari’s sons,
9:15Bakbakar, Ares, Galal, and Manthanias son of Micha, son of Zechri, son of Asaph,
9:16Abdia son of Samia, son of Galal, son of Idithon; and Barachia son of Ossa, son of Elkana, who dwelt in the villages of Netophati.
The Gatekeepers
9:17The gatekeepers: Salom, Akoub, Talman, Aiman, and their brothers; Salom was the ruler.
9:18Until this time, at the king’s gate toward the east: these were the gates of the camps of Levi’s sons.
9:19Salom son of Kore, son of Abiasaph, son of Kore, and his brothers belonging to his father’s house, the Korites, were over the works of ministry, keeping the tent’s guard duties; their fathers were over the Lord’s camp, guarding the entrance.
9:20Phinees son of Eleazar had formerly been leader over them, and these were with him.
9:21Zacharias son of Masalami was gatekeeper of the door of the Tent of Testimony.
9:22All those chosen for the gates, at the gates, were two hundred twelve. These were in their courts, their enrollment. David and Samuel the seer appointed these in their faithfulness.
9:23They and their sons were over the gates in the Lord’s house, in the tent-house, to keep guard.
9:24The gates were toward the four winds: east, sea, north, south.
9:25Their brothers in their courts were to come in for seven days, from time to time, with these.
The Charge of the Chambers and the Treasures
9:26For four mighty men of the gates serve in faithfulness. The Levites were over the chambers and the treasuries of the house of God.
9:27They shall camp around the house of God because the guard duty rests on them; they are responsible for the keys, to open the temple doors morning by morning.
Those over the Vessels and the Perfumes
9:28Some of them were over the ministry vessels, for they shall bring them in by count and take them out by count.
9:29Some were appointed over the vessels, all the holy vessels, the fine flour, the wine, the oil, the frankincense, and the spices.
9:30Some of the priests’ sons were perfumers for the perfume and for the spices.
9:31Mattathias, one of the Levites—he was the firstborn of Salom the Korite—was entrusted with the work of the high priest’s pan offering.
9:32Banaias the Kaathite, one of their brothers, was over the presentation loaves, to prepare them Sabbath by Sabbath.
The Singers
9:33These were psalm singers, rulers of the Levites’ ancestral houses, assigned divisions, for day and night the work rested on them.
9:34These were rulers of the Levites’ ancestral houses according to their generations, rulers. These dwelt in Jerusalem.
The House of Gabaon
9:35In Gabaon dwelt the father of Gabaon, Jiiel; his wife’s name was Moocha.
9:36His firstborn son was Abadon; then Sir, Kis, Baal, Ner, and Nadab,
9:37Gedour, a brother, Zacharia, and Makelloth.
9:38Makelloth fathered Samaa. These dwelt among their brothers in Jerusalem, with their brothers.
The House of Saul
9:39Ner fathered Kish; Kish fathered Saul; Saul fathered Jonathan, Melchisoue, Amminadab, and Isbaal.
9:40Jonathan’s son was Maribaal, and Maribaal fathered Micha.
9:41Micha’s sons: Phaithon, Malach, and Tharach.
9:42Achaz fathered Jada; Jada fathered Galemeth, Gazmoth, and Zambri; Zambri fathered Masa.
9:43Masa fathered Baana; Raphaia was his son, Eleasa his son, and Esel his son.
9:44Esel had six sons, and these were their names: Esdrikam his firstborn, Ismael, Saria, Abdia, and Anan. These were Esel’s sons.
