Pharaoh Rejects the Lord
11:1The Lord said to Moses, “I will bring one more plague upon Pharaoh and Egypt. Afterward he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will drive you out altogether, with everything.
11:2“Therefore speak secretly in the people’s hearing, and let each man ask his neighbor and each woman her neighbor for articles of silver and gold and for clothing.”
11:3The Lord gave His people favor in the Egyptians’ sight, and they lent to them. The man Moses became very great in the sight of the Egyptians, Pharaoh, and all his attendants.
11:4Moses said, “Thus says the Lord: About midnight I will enter the midst of Egypt.
11:5“Every firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on the throne to the firstborn of the female slave at the mill, and the firstborn of every animal of the livestock.
11:6“There shall be a great cry throughout the land of Egypt, such as there has never been and never will be again.
11:7“But among all the sons of Israel, whether human or animal, not a dog shall growl with its tongue, so that you may see how wonderfully the Lord distinguishes between the Egyptians and Israel.
11:8“All these servants of yours shall come down to me and bow before me, saying, ‘Go out, you and all your people whom you lead!’ After that I will go out.” Moses went out from Pharaoh in anger.
11:9The Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh will not listen to you, so that I may greatly multiply My signs and wonders in the land of Egypt.”
11:10Moses and Aaron performed all these signs and wonders in the land of Egypt before Pharaoh. The Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he was unwilling to send the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt.
