8:1The Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron your brother, ‘Stretch out the staff in your hand over the rivers, canals, and marshes, and bring up the frogs.’”
8:2Aaron stretched out his hand over Egypt’s waters and brought up the frogs. The frogs were brought up and covered the land of Egypt.
8:3The Egyptian enchanters did the same by their sorceries and brought frogs up over the land of Egypt.
8:4Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron and said, “Pray to the Lord for me, and let Him remove the frogs from me and my people. I will let them go so that they may sacrifice to the Lord.”
8:5Moses said to Pharaoh, “Set the time for me to pray for you, your attendants, and your people, to remove the frogs from you, your people, and your houses. They shall remain only in the river.”
8:6He said, “Tomorrow.” Moses replied, “As you say, so that you may see that there is no other besides the Lord.
8:7“The frogs shall be removed from you, your houses and farmsteads, your attendants, and your people. They shall remain only in the river.”
8:8Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh. Moses cried to the Lord concerning the appointed limit for the frogs, as Pharaoh had set it.
8:9The Lord did as Moses said. The frogs died in the houses, farmsteads, and fields.
8:10They gathered them in heaps upon heaps, and the land stank.
8:11When Pharaoh saw that there was relief, his heart became heavy and he did not listen to them, as the Lord had said.
The Third Plague: Gnats
8:12The Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out the staff in your hand and strike the dust of the earth, and there shall be gnats on people and four-footed animals throughout the land of Egypt.’”
8:13Aaron stretched out the staff in his hand and struck the earth’s dust, and gnats came upon people and four-footed animals. Gnats appeared in all the earth’s dust throughout the land of Egypt.
8:14The enchanters tried by their sorceries to bring forth gnats, but they could not. The gnats were on people and four-footed animals.
8:15The enchanters said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the Lord had said.
The Fourth Plague: Flies
8:16The Lord said to Moses, “Rise early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh as he goes out to the water. Say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord: Let My people go so that they may serve Me in the wilderness.
8:17“‘If you are unwilling to let My people go, I will send dog-flies upon you, your attendants, your people, and your houses. The Egyptians’ houses and the ground where they stand will be filled with dog-flies.
8:18“‘On that day I will distinguish marvelously the land of Goshen, where My people dwell, so that no dog-flies will be there. Thus you shall know that I am the Lord, the Lord of all the earth.
8:19“‘I will put a distinction between My people and your people. Tomorrow this sign shall take place upon the land.’”
8:20The Lord did so. A multitude of dog-flies came into Pharaoh’s houses, his attendants’ houses, and all the land of Egypt. The land was ruined by the dog-flies.
8:21Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God within the land.”
8:22Moses said, “This cannot be done, for we would sacrifice to the Lord our God what the Egyptians regard as abominations. If we sacrifice these before their eyes, we shall be stoned.
8:23“We will go a three days’ journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the Lord our God, as He told us.”
8:24Pharaoh said, “I will let you go to sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness, but you must not go very far. Pray to the Lord for me.”
8:25Moses said, “I am going out from you, and I will pray to God. Tomorrow the dog-flies shall leave you, your attendants, and your people. Pharaoh, do not deceive again by refusing to let the people sacrifice to the Lord.”
8:26Moses went out from Pharaoh and prayed to God.
8:27The Lord did as Moses said and removed the dog-flies from Pharaoh, his attendants, and his people. Not one remained.
8:28Pharaoh made his heart heavy this time also and was unwilling to let the people go.
