Against Tyre

26:1In the eleventh year, on the first of the month, the Lord’s word came to me, saying,

26:2Son of man, because Tyre said of Jerusalem, Well done! She is shattered; the nations have perished. She has turned to me; the full one has been laid waste,

26:3therefore thus says the Lord: I am against you, Tyre, and I will bring many nations against you, as the sea rises with its waves.

26:4They will throw down Tyre’s walls and throw down your towers. I will winnow her dust from her and make her a smooth rock.

26:5She will be a drying place for nets in the midst of the sea, for I have spoken, says the Lord. She will become plunder for the nations,

26:6and her daughters in the plain will be killed by the sword. They will know that I am the Lord.

26:7For thus says the Lord: I am bringing against you, Tyre, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the north—he is king of kings—with horses, chariots, horsemen, and an assembly of very many nations.

26:8He will kill your daughters in the plain with the sword, set an advance guard against you, build around you, and make a palisade and a ring of weapons around you; he will set his spears opposite you.

26:9He will throw down your walls and your towers with his swords.

26:10The dust of his multitude of horses will cover you, and your walls will shake at the sound of his horsemen and his chariots’ wheels when he enters your gates like someone entering a city from the plain.

26:11With his horses’ hoofs they will trample all your squares. He will kill your people with the sword and bring the support of your strength down to the ground.

26:12He will plunder your strength, strip your possessions, throw down your walls, and demolish your desirable houses. He will throw your stones, timber, and dust into the sea.

26:13He will put an end to the multitude of your musicians, and the sound of your psalteries will certainly no longer be heard.

26:14I will make you a smooth rock, a drying place for nets. You will certainly not be rebuilt, for I have spoken, says the Lord.

26:15For thus says the Lord, the Lord, to Tyre: Will not the islands shake at the sound of your fall, when the wounded groan and a sword is drawn within you?

26:16All the rulers from the nations of the sea will step down from their thrones, remove the turbans from their heads, and strip off their patterned clothing. They will be utterly astonished, sit on the ground, fear their own destruction, and groan over you.

The Lament over Tyre

26:17They will raise a lament over you and say to you: How you were destroyed from the sea, praised city that spread her fear to all who live in her!

26:18The islands will be afraid from the day of your fall.

26:19For thus says the Lord, the Lord: When I make you a desolated city like cities that will not be inhabited, when I bring the abyss up over you and much water covers you,

26:20I will bring you down to those descending into the pit, to the people of old. I will settle you in the depths of the earth like an everlasting wilderness, with those descending into the pit, so that you are not inhabited and do not rise in the land of life.

26:21I will make you destruction, and you will no longer exist forever, says the Lord, the Lord.
