While Jesus was still speaking, His mother and brothers came and stood outside, seeking to speak with Him. They could not reach Him because of the crowd, so they sent to Him and called Him. Someone said, “Behold, Your mother and Your brothers stand outside, seeking to speak with You.” He answered, “Who is My mother, and who are My brothers?” Looking around at those seated in a circle about Him and stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, “Behold, My mother and My brothers! My mother and My brothers are those who hear God’s word and do it. Whoever does the will of My Father in the heavens is My brother and sister and mother.”

While He was saying these things, a woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You and the breasts at which You nursed!” But He said, “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
