Saints Translation: Psalms 107–150 [V1] — Volume V with Greek Psalm 151 Supplement

Psalter Book V • Hebrew Psalms 107–150 • Greek Psalms 106–150 • Greek Psalm 151 supplement

Saints Translation V1 · Edition and source-access date: Sep 8, 2026

Complete working translation for this volume; independently translated from the directly accessed Hebrew and Greek main texts. Critical-apparatus collation and independent specialist review have not been completed.

This is Volume V of five documents representing the single book Psalms. Greek Psalm151 is explicitly supplementary within this volume and does not add a separate book to the collection count.

Reader’s guide

Hebrew: directly accessed Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia main text (fifth corrected edition, 1997), except Psalms 119 and 142, translated from the actually accessed Mechon Mamre Hebrew text after BHS retrieval failed. These fallbacks are not represented as BHS collation. Greek: directly accessed Septuaginta main text, Rahlfs–Hanhart (2006), including the seven-unit Psalm 151 supplement. Individual source identities and URLs appear in the register. No critical apparatus or manuscript collation is claimed. Reception quotations and paraphrases are separately attributed.

Navigation follows Hebrew Psalms 107–150. Greek106–112 corresponds to Hebrew107–113; Greek113:1–8 and9–26 to Hebrew114 and115. Hebrew116:1–9 corresponds to Greek114;116:10–19 to Greek115, whose displayed label5 is absent. Hebrew117–146 generally corresponds to Greek116–145, with source-specific verse boundaries retained. Hebrew147:1–11 and12–20 correspond to Greek146 and147; both sequences use148–150. Greek144:13a is retained in a separate row without a Hebrew counterpart. Greek151 is a seven-unit supplement whose own superscription says it is outside the number, not a separate biblical book. Hebrew and Greek superscriptions and alphabet headings remain in their actual units.

Comparison key

Same — Corresponding meaning and content; equivalent idiom and YHWH/Lord alone do not create a difference.

Similar — The essentials agree, with a modest difference in expression, idiom or emphasis.

Different — A meaningful detail, participant, action or image differs without an established major change in force or consequence.

Divergent — Added, omitted or substantially rearranged material governs the comparison; historical direction and motive are not inferred.

Disparate — A major difference in meaning or consequence, including agency, assertion, theological portrayal, imagery or cumulative force; strict contradiction is not required.

Each translation cell displays its own source reference. Poetic line breaks, superscriptions and performance markers belong to the accessed text; the purple psalm titles are editorial reading aids. Category colors supplement the written labels in the notes column.

Sources, Method & Decisions

1. Independent English renderings preserve poetic line breaks, negatives, grammatical voices, source-specific images and quantities. Superscriptions are translated within their actual numbered units, distinct from editorial psalm titles.

2. Hebrew YHWH remains distinct from Greek Lord. Ambiguous human figures are not identified as Christ through capitalization; explicit interpretations belong in attributed reception notes.

3. Five comparison categories express editorial judgments from actual wording. Added, absent or rearranged material is Divergent unless it makes a major difference of meaning or consequence, classified Disparate. No category quota is imposed.

4. Hebrew107–150 is the fifth Psalter division. This volume and four preceding volumes together represent one book, Psalms. Greek151 is an explicitly labeled supplement within this volume.

5. Hebrew114 and115 align continuously with Greek113:1–8 and9–26. Hebrew116:1–9 aligns with Greek114;116:10–19 with Greek115. Displayed Greek115 skips label5, marked as absence at Hebrew116:14; Greek115:8 lacks the Hebrew116:17 invocation. Neither is supplied from another edition or Augustine.

6. Hebrew119 aligns with Greek118 in176 units per column. Greek numbered alphabet headings remain within each stanza’s opening verse; no headings absent from the declared Hebrew display are invented. Hebrew pointed readings at79,147,161 govern the translation, with written forms noted.

7. Hebrew119 and142 use the actually read Mechon Mamre Hebrew text after publisher BHS access failed. Their explicit source identities do not imply BHS apparatus collation.

8. Within-psalm boundary shifts remain where printed, including Hebrew120:6–7/Greek119:6–7; Jerusalem in125/Greek124; the exhortation at Greek129:6 versus Hebrew130:7; and night at Greek133:2 versus Hebrew134:1. Material is translated once per source.

9. Hebrew147:1–11 and12–20 map to Greek146 and147 respectively. Both sources use148–150. Greek144:13a is a separate comparison row with no Hebrew counterpart.

10. Greek135 includes twenty-eight mercy refrains in twenty-six numbered groups. Additional water-from-rock and final Lord-of-lords couplets remain in groups16 and26. Greek117:28 likewise retains its extra thanksgiving couplet within the printed label.

11. Hebrew107 reversed-nun signs following20–25 and39 are described in notes, not treated as spoken words. Praise Yah, Hallelujah, musical markers and source headings retain their respective source positions.

12. Greek begetting in109:3 remains distinct from Hebrew110:3 dawn/dew/youth; Greek oil-altered flesh in108:24 is not supplied with an unprinted lack-of expression. Hebrew118:12 extinguished remains distinct from Greek117:12 blazed up.

13. Other major differences remain visible: contempt recipients at123:4; flood subjects at124:4–5; dreamers and comforted people at126:1; youth and cast-out people, quiver and desire at127:4–5; furrows/lawlessness and cords/necks at129:3–4; fear/law and watchmen/time span at130:4–6; quietness/exaltation and child/repayment at131:2; his crown/My holy sign at132:18.

14. Hebrew145:6 follows the explicit read singular greatness on the actually consulted Chabad display; the publisher running plural and written/read distinction are recorded. No apparatus access is claimed.

15. Greek151 is translated from its seven displayed units, including its own superscription calling it outside the number. No Hebrew Dead Sea Scroll text is reconstructed as its counterpart.

16. Violent images, including137:9 and149, remain explicit in the translation. Spiritual readings are attributed separately. Rashi’s national interpretation and Augustine’s Christological interpretation of118:22 do not replace the corresponding stone image.

17. This is a complete working translation for the volume, with selective reception. Independent specialist review, apparatus collation and final liturgical authorization are not claimed.

Term List

יהוה / κύριος — YHWH / Lord

Each source keeps its own divine designation; Hebrew Adonai is Lord and is not silently expanded to YHWH.

סֶלָה / διάψαλμα — Selah / Diapsalma or Interlude

The Greek performance term is rendered Diapsalma or Interlude in the contributing drafts. Its actual source position is preserved; precise musical execution is not asserted. Consistency review of the English label remains outstanding.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ / εἰς τὸ τέλος — For the director / For the end

Provisional Hebrew musical direction and distinct literal Greek wording preserved. Later theological interpretations belong in attributed notes.

Alignment Notes

All forty-four Hebrew psalms in Psalter Book V and their corresponding Greek source units, plus seven Greek-only Psalm151 units, each accounted for once. Superscriptions, alphabet headings and source-specific additions are retained.

Open Questions

1. Psalm 108:8–10: review the transition into the divine oracle and the Greek hope-cauldron/extended-sandal idiom without importing the Hebrew washbasin and thrown sandal.

2. Psalm 109:4,6–19,10,20,24: review who loves whom, whether the curses quote opponents, the displaced beggars’ syntax, work versus recompense, and the Greek flesh altered because of oil. No missing negative or lack-of expression has been supplied to repair Greek.

3. Psalm 110:3–4,6–7: the Hebrew compressed dawn/dew/youth line and al-divrati require specialist review; manner of is provisional. Greek begetting is explicit and retained. Review the collective head/heads, supplied field for filling corpses, and the identity of he in the final verse.

4. Psalm 122:3,7: Review Greek metoche, provisionally common sharing, and strength/tower-fortresses without imposing Hebrew joined-city/rampart wording.

5. Psalm 123:4: Review the Hebrew final proud-form and the Greek dative-reproach clauses. The Greek display prints recipient-directed nominal statements after a sentence break.

6. Psalm 125:5: Review Greek strangalias, provisionally tangled ways, against twists, entanglements, and strangulations.

7. Psalm 126:1,4,6: Review restoration of fortunes or captivity and meshekh of seed. The Greek comforted and plural sowers remain explicit.

8. Psalm 127:2,4–5: Review Hebrew sleep as gift or circumstance and the Greek when-clause. Preserve Greek cast-out people and desire independently of Hebrew youth and quiver.

9. Psalm 128:2: Greek karpon is provisionally wrists, corresponding to Hebrew palms; fruits is another lexical possibility. Psalm 129:3,6: Review the displayed furrow-form and shalaf.

10. Psalm 130:4–6: Review atonement, law, and the time span without harmonizing Hebrew reverent fear and watchmen. Psalm 131:2: The Greek conditional or oath construction remains incomplete; Augustine discusses competing interpretations.

11. Psalm 132:6,8,12,15,18: Review the feminine antecedent, ark holiness phrase, Hebrew testimony number, Greek game, and My hagiasma, provisionally holy sign or object. No later anointed king is named in the base.

12. Psalm 133:2 and 134:2: Review garment opening or border and sanctuary or holiness. Psalm 135:14: Preserve Greek being comforted independently of Hebrew relenting.

13. Hebrew139 includes unresolved lexical and syntactic questions at3,13–17,20,24: cord versus lying down, acquisition and weaving, unformed substance and days, thoughts/friends and sums/beginnings, and an explicitly bracketed supplied object at20. These are noted individually.

14. Hebrew140–141 difficult desires, head/circle, oil, judges, net and temporal clauses remain provisional; Greek differs substantially and is not conformed to a preferred Hebrew reconstruction.

15. Hebrew142:8 gather-around versus crowning remains open; its entire Hebrew source requires eventual BHS verification. Hebrew143:9 hiding/covering construction is provisional.

16. Hebrew144:12–15 our versus Greek their is preserved. Hebrew purpose/circumstance, corner pillars, laden oxen or burdened leaders, and going-out phrases remain qualified. Greek they-called-blessed is distinct from direct Hebrew beatitude.

17. Hebrew145:16 favor/desire and Greek150:1 holy ones/holy places are live alternatives. Ancient instrument names are conventional provisional labels, not exact modern identifications.

18. No direct collation of Dead Sea Scroll manuscripts or reconstruction of a Hebrew nun verse has been performed; Greek144:13a remains a Greek addition relative to the displayed Hebrew base.

19. Review Hebrew116:10 ki; Hebrew118:10–12 amilam and118:14 strength/song syntax; Hebrew118:27 festival-sacrifice construction and Greek117:27 en tois pykazousin; Greek119:3 pros and119:4 eremikoi; Greek151 superscription idiographos. All competing choices are stated locally.

20. Greek151 has been translated only from the declared RH2006 main text. No Hebrew Psalms151A/B manuscript, apparatus or attribution collation has been undertaken.

21. Psalm119: Specialist review remains needed for rare Hebrew terms at 33, 53, 96, 112, 113 and 158; compressed agreement and syntax at 98, 103, 126, 128 and 138; and head/sum/beginning at 160. Alternatives are stated in the verse notes.

22. Psalm119: Greek 98 accusative construction and 128 middle/passive construction remain provisionally rendered.

23. Psalm119: Comparison categories are editorial judgments. The major changes at 51, 60, 85 and 119–120 are flagged Disparate; other local additions and substitutions remain identified without a preset category quota.

24. Independent qualified Hebrew and Greek review and critical-apparatus collation remain outstanding. The exact source boundaries have been checked; difficult local syntax is flagged rather than harmonized.

Review Record

The merged volume contains 712 comparison rows: 704 Hebrew source units and 711 Greek source units. Source references are unique within each column. The difference reflects the Greek144:13a addition, seven Greek151 supplementary units and the absence of Greek115:5.

The completed Psalm119 handoff accounts for all176 Hebrew and176 Greek numbered units, including Greek alphabet headings and its displayed verse104 addition. Hebrew source fallback identity is preserved.

All source references in the newly completed114–118,120 and151 sections were compared against actually read main texts, including the Greek113 combination and114–115 division.

Every bracketed reception identifier used in this volume resolves to the source register. Selective reception remains distinct from base translation.

Translation and source comparison were performed by the drafting agents. Independent qualified linguistic review and critical-apparatus collation remain outstanding.

Exact content readback and all-page exported-PDF inspection are recorded separately from linguistic and reception review.

The document remains a working draft with the linguistic, source-form and review limitations stated above.
