16:1A prayer of David.

Hear my righteousness, Lord;

attend to my petition;

give ear to my prayer, not from deceitful lips.

16:2May my judgment come forth from Your presence;

let my eyes see upright things.

16:3You tested my heart; You visited by night;

You tried me by fire, and no injustice was found in me,

16:4so that my mouth might not speak human deeds.

Because of the words of Your lips, I kept hard paths.

16:5Set my steps firmly in Your paths,

so that my steps may not be shaken.

16:6I cried out, for You heard me, God;

incline Your ear to me and hear my words.

16:7Make Your mercies wonderful,

You who save those hoping in You

from those who oppose Your right hand.

16:8Guard me as the pupil of an eye;

in the shelter of Your wings You will shelter me,

16:9from the ungodly who made me miserable.

My enemies surrounded my soul.

16:10They shut up their fat;

their mouth spoke arrogance.

16:11Casting me out, they now surrounded me;

they set their eyes to turn aside toward the earth.

16:12They took me up like a lion ready for the hunt

and like a young lion dwelling in hiding places.

16:13Arise, Lord; get ahead of them and trip them up;

rescue my soul from an ungodly man,

Your sword from the enemies of Your hand.

16:14Lord, separate them from the few, from the earth,

during their life.

Their belly was filled with Your hidden things;

they were satisfied with sons

and left the remains to their infants.

16:15But I, in righteousness, will appear before Your face;

I will be satisfied when Your glory appears.
