You Are My Son; Today I Have Begotten You

2:1Why did nations rage,

and peoples meditate on empty things?

2:2The kings of the earth stood ready,

and the rulers gathered together,

against the Lord and against His anointed.

Diapsalma.

2:3“Let us tear apart their bonds

and cast their yoke away from us.”

2:4The One dwelling in heaven will laugh at them,

and the Lord will sneer at them.

2:5Then He will speak to them in His anger

and trouble them in His fury:

2:6“But I was appointed king by Him

on Zion, His holy mountain,

2:7announcing the Lord’s decree:

The Lord said to me, ‘You are My son;

today I have begotten you.

2:8Ask of Me, and I will give you nations as your inheritance,

and the ends of the earth as your possession.

2:9You will shepherd them with an iron rod;

you will crush them like a potter’s vessel.’”

2:10And now, kings, understand;

be instructed, all who judge the earth.

2:11Serve the Lord with fear,

and exult in Him with trembling.

2:12Take hold of instruction, lest the Lord become angry

and you perish from a righteous way.

When His fury burns quickly,

blessed are all who have trusted in Him.
