Greek Psalm 68
They Gave Me Gall to Eat, and Vinegar for My Thirst

68:1For the end. Concerning those who will be changed. Of David.
68:2Save me, God,
for waters have entered as far as my soul.
68:3I was stuck in the mud of the depth, with no firm ground;
I entered the sea’s depths, and a tempest drowned me.
68:4I grew weary crying out; my throat became hoarse;
my eyes failed from hoping in my God.
68:5More numerous than my head’s hairs became those hating me without cause;
my enemies pursuing me unjustly became strong.
What I did not plunder, I was then repaying.
68:6God, You knew my folly,
and my offenses were not concealed from You.
68:7May those waiting for You not be ashamed because of me,
Lord, Lord of powers;
may those seeking You not be embarrassed because of me,
God of Israel,
68:8for on Your account I endured reproach;
embarrassment covered my face.
68:9I became estranged from my brothers
and a foreigner to my mother’s sons,
68:10for zeal for Your house devoured me,
and the reproaches of those reproaching You fell upon me.
68:11I bowed my soul down in fasting,
and it became a reproach to me.
68:12I made sackcloth my garment,
and became a proverb to them.
68:13Those sitting in the gate talked against me,
and wine-drinkers sang about me.
68:14But I, in my prayer, turn toward You, Lord;
a time of favor, God, in the abundance of Your mercy.
Hear me in the truth of Your salvation.
68:15Save me from clay so that I may not become stuck;
may I be rescued from those hating me and from the depth of waters.
68:16Let no tempest of water drown me,
nor the depth swallow me;
let no well close its mouth over me.
68:17Hear me, Lord, for Your mercy is kind;
according to Your abundant compassions, look upon me.
68:18Do not turn Your face away from Your servant;
for I am afflicted, hear me quickly.
68:19Attend to my soul and redeem it;
because of my enemies, rescue me.
68:20For You know my reproach, shame and embarrassment;
all those afflicting me are before You.
68:21My soul expected reproach and misery;
I waited for someone to grieve with me, but there was none,
for comforters, but found none.
68:22They gave gall for my food,
and for my thirst made me drink sour wine.
68:23Let their table before them become a trap,
a repayment and a stumbling block.
68:24Let their eyes be darkened so they cannot see,
and bend their back down continually.
68:25Pour Your anger upon them;
may the fury of Your anger seize them.
68:26Let their homestead become deserted;
let no one dwell in their dwellings.
68:27For they persecuted the one You struck,
and added to the pain of Your wounded.
68:28Add lawlessness to their lawlessness,
and let them not enter Your righteousness.
68:29Let them be erased from the book of the living,
and let them not be written with the righteous.
68:30I am poor and in pain,
and the salvation of Your presence, God, supported me.
68:31I will praise God’s name with a song
and magnify Him in praise,
68:32and it will please God more than a young calf
bringing forth horns and hoofs.
68:33Let the poor see and rejoice;
seek God, and your soul will live,
68:34for the Lord heard the needy
and did not reduce His bound ones to nothing.
68:35Let the heavens and earth praise Him,
the sea and everything creeping in them.
68:36For God will save Zion,
and Judea’s cities will be built;
they will dwell there and inherit it.
68:37His servants’ offspring will possess it,
and those loving His name will dwell in it.
