As He was leaving the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, “Teacher, look! What stones and what buildings!”

Jesus began saying to them, “Watch out that no one leads you astray.

Many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and will lead many astray.

When you hear of wars and reports of wars, do not be alarmed. These must happen, but the end is not yet.

For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. These things are the beginning of birth pains.

But watch yourselves. They will hand you over to councils; you will be beaten in synagogues, and you will stand before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them.

The good news must first be proclaimed to all the nations.

When they lead you away to hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Whatever is given you in that hour, say that; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.

Brother will hand brother over to death, and a father his child. Children will rise against parents and have them put to death.

You will be hated by all because of My name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

Let the one on the housetop not go down or enter to take anything from his house,

and let the one in the field not turn back to take his garment.

Woe to those who are pregnant and those nursing infants in those days!

Pray that it does not happen in winter.

For those days will be distress such as has not occurred from the beginning of the creation that God created until now, and certainly will not occur again.

If the Lord had not shortened the days, no flesh would have been saved. But for the sake of the chosen, whom He chose, He shortened the days.

Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘Look, there!’ do not believe it.

For false christs and false prophets will arise and give signs and wonders to lead astray, if possible, the chosen.

But you, watch out! I have told you everything beforehand.

But in those days, after that distress, the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light.

The stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.

Then He will send the angels and gather the chosen from the four winds, from the end of the earth to the end of heaven.

Learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts out leaves, you know that summer is near.

So also, when you see these things happening, know that it is near, at the doors.

Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things happen.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will certainly not pass away.

It is like a man going abroad who left his house and gave his slaves authority, each his own work, and commanded the doorkeeper to keep watch.

Therefore keep watch, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming: in the evening, at midnight, at cockcrow, or in the morning.

Otherwise he may come suddenly and find you sleeping.
