Greek–English Translation

The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ.

As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: “Look, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way;

John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem were going out to him. They were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.

The unclean spirit convulsed him, cried out with a loud voice, and came out of him.

They were all amazed, so that they discussed among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching! With authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”

Becoming angry, He stretched out His hand, touched him, and said to him, “I am willing. Be cleansed.”

Immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.

Sternly warning him, He immediately drove him away

and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

But he went out and began proclaiming it widely and spreading the report, so that Jesus could no longer enter a city openly. He remained outside in deserted places, and they came to Him from every direction.
