He summoned His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out and to heal every disease and every infirmity.

Jesus sent these twelve, commanding them, “Do not go along a road of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of Samaritans.

As you go, proclaim, ‘The kingdom of the heavens has drawn near.’

Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received; freely give.

Do not acquire gold, silver, or copper for your belts,

nor a bag for the journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor a staff; for the worker is worthy of his food.

Whatever city or village you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and remain there until you leave.

As you enter the house, greet it.

If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.

Whoever will not receive you or hear your words, as you leave that house or city, shake the dust off your feet.

Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that city.

Behold, I send you as sheep in the midst of wolves. So become prudent as snakes and innocent as doves.

Beware of people, for they will hand you over to councils and flog you in their synagogues.

You will also be brought before governors and kings because of Me, as a testimony to them and to the nations.

When they hand you over, do not be anxious about how or what you should speak, for what you should speak will be given to you at that hour.

For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.

Brother will hand brother over to death, and a father his child; children will rise against parents and have them put to death.

You will be hated by all because of My name, but the one who endures to the end will be saved.

When they persecute you in this city, flee to the other. For truly I tell you, you will certainly not finish going through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man comes.

A disciple is not above the teacher, nor a slave above his master.

It is enough for the disciple to become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more his household members!

So do not fear them. For nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not become known.

What I tell you in the darkness, say in the light; and what you hear in the ear, proclaim upon the housetops.

Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Fear instead the One who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.

Are not two sparrows sold for an assarion? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.

Even the hairs of your head are all numbered.

So do not fear; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Therefore everyone who acknowledges Me before people, I too will acknowledge before My Father in the heavens.

But whoever denies Me before people, I too will deny before My Father in the heavens.

Do not suppose that I came to bring peace upon the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

For I came to divide a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law,

and a person’s enemies will be the members of his own household.

Whoever loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and whoever loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.

Whoever does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.

Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life because of Me will find it.

Whoever receives you receives Me, and whoever receives Me receives the One who sent Me.

Whoever receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever receives a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward.

And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, truly I tell you, will certainly not lose his reward.”
